I've been using Lowrance GPS unitsand I'm looking at moving to a Garmin Unit.

Most of the DSBC gang are posting their tracks and I don't know how to import them into the Lowrance.

I was looking for recommendations.

Thanks,

Mark

I am very pleased with my Colorado 300. I use Canadian Topographics from Garmin and Mapsource. Garmin does regular upgrades to both mapping softward and unit firmware on their websites which have worked seemlessly so far.

I like the large color screen and excellent reception even in heavily treed situations.

RAM mount for this unit works very well.

Mapsource allows user to save files as GPX format which is a more universal file format as well as Google Earth view and file save capability.

Based on research, and primarily DS usage, it came down to the colo300 or 60csx due to the type of rough terrain antenae they use. Reviews seem mixed on colo300 and 60csx is very well regarded. The colo300 rendered maps "look" way better and bigger... a number of guys on this site say it's great.

colo300
- slightly shorter batt life than others in class, not fully waterproof on external power / connector issues, some say it is hard to read in sun or while in motion, firmware is evolving / chipset has been historically questionable, total installed cost (with mount accessories, batts, and topoBC) around $650-750

-awesome size screen and detail, direct transfer btwn units, better menu navigation and usability, some really cool secondary features

60csx
-small screen, requires pc to load / share files,

-the 60csx is the device of choice for geocacher's, easy to read in motion, very very rugged, established firmware and chipset, huge happy user base, total installed cost $500-600

I think otg had recommended, and this is where I'm buying due to tax savings:

Don't take my word as truth, because I don't own; you'll see my conclusions with some online research. I've decided on 60csx, yet it was a close decision as I'm almost always a early adopter. Mainly price has determined my decision plus the colo mixed reviews. I plan to use it for DS, hiking, camping, fishing, and canoeing, so I want something waterproof / bulletproof , easy to read quickly, with good batt life. Ultimately I justify buying one to get me and my friends outta the bush in emergencies so reliability is everything.

Thx, all

I was looking at the 300 today...the navigation wheel could be tricky with gloves on.

The 60csx, wasn't instock for a comparision.

I did see the 76CSX, I was wonder about having the buttons on top of the screen, maybe covering the screen while touching.

mint if you do canoeing, you should consider the 76 instead of the 60, it floats.

i've got the map 76csx as well. i'm very happy with it, it has twice the memory the 60csx does,it floats,it's water proof, and as far as i can tell,it has the same guts as a 60. oh did i mention it's cheaper as well. gps city had them on sale a little while ago for under $300.

Has anyone tried the Garmin Zumo 660? Before I run out and spend $750 on a GPS it would be nice to see some review of it...
