What kind of windscreen in that? I am hoping to do a bunch of superslab this summer and this would make it better.

I am going to get the Touratech panniers to match the rest of my TT catalog purchases.

It is a very generic windscreen that I purchased for my XR650L many years ago. I think I paid $65 for it. It worked perfectly for the ride back from Kelowna to Victoria. It only takes two allen keys to remove it.

Have you seen this pannier rack from Hepko Becker?

It's also much cheaper and looks like this (see photo)with Wolfman soft luggage. Of course you don't get a new rear subframe so if your carying a lot of weight (and you have the cash) the TT set up is very sweet.

PS - this is not my bike but I sure do love the set up

Do you have any close up photos of the mounting?

I have seen the HB brackets, but I like the thought of changing the subframe out for added strength. I intend to use it like an off-road bike with panniers installed. It will be ridden hard still.

No close up photos. With all the threads I've read about cracked subframe, you are probably better off with steel subframe. Especially if you'll be riding hard off road. Hell, what's another $1400 anyways.

I'm not a big fan of hard cases for off road riding. I much preferred my soft luggage on Baja last year.

How do you like the Continental tires? I looked at your thread from when you first got your bike. Nice set up. TT loves you.

I want to do the Touratech Canada-2-Mexico offroad route if I can pry it from their hands.

It is pretty much all off-road border-to-border. Just into town for fuel. I have to watch the video again as it is still snowing up here.

I also like the security of the hard luggage. It was great on my 1150GSA, secured and easy to remove for weekend riding. Lots of storage for camping gear.

I like the TKC80 tires. They are a good 50/50 tire. The front washes in loose dirt and gravel, but I don't air them down when I am offroad, I run street pressures to make life easier and so I don't get flats. The rear is fine and is wearing nicely.

There are better offroad tires, but they will be quickly chewed up during my weekly commute.

I think I will swap out to Sahara 3s, for my superslab trips, plus put on a 16T front sprocket.

I switched to a 14T front for offroad weekend adventures and it is perfect.

TT does love me, but they make quality gear. I just need to sell my other bike so I can buy the panniers and double 1L fuel bottle mount. I just need a larger screen, maybe, for the trip.

I was plotting to the southernmost point of Texas tonight. That should make for a good run.

All I'm doing is riding mine to work.

I can't wait to make it look like that, except maybe the headlight - so much for the TT headlight protector.

I am a regular on there too. My TT headlight protector didn't break, just bent from the shear force of being jammed through a stump.

It is all fixed now and I am just waiting for it to warm up enough for the ice/snow to be off the roads.

I wish BMW had kept making the G650X Challenge... It looks like the perfect platform for a daily rider and off road fun bike.

Bike looks great

Yes, I have done: shift lever drilled 2 holes in it to snap off if big crash, otherwise the spline into the tranny may break. Rear shock inner mud flap needs to be heated and bent to stop from hitting the rubber shock. Rear tailight holder braced to stop the bouncing off-road.

Nice set-up. If it's nice and dry in Moab, those tires will be better than knobby's on the rock.

Scottiedog, how are you liking the KLR?

Well I finally made it to Moab with the XChallenge and I was not disappointed. I dropped 2 teeth up front turning the bike into a tractor for steep technical climbs and descents. Good times!
