Writing from Boulder CO USA. Myself and two friends are going to ride from Nighthawk Washington, USA to Bella Coola BC after finishing the Washington BDR. We are riding late August this year. We are riding BMW R1200GS and are competent but not expert riders. We will take the ferry from Bella Coola to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. Direct route appears to be 3A to 5A to 97 to 20. We have three or four extra days to do day rides and loops. We are looking for suggestions for possible day rides off our route and other routes to Bella Coola. All suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance!

Welcome! Unfortunately most of the activity from this site has shifted to the Facebook page.
A couple of detour suggestions: Instead of following 5A all the way to Kamloops, split off to the 97C from Merritt to Logan Lake to Ashcroft. Just north of Cache Creek, go west on 99 until you get to Mount Currie, go north to D'Arcy and get on the Highline road to Seton Portage. From there go up over Mission Mtn and back to Lillooet. Top up your fuel there, then get on the West Pavilion Rd up to the Big Bar Ferry. Cross that and go up through Canoe Creek and cross the bridge and go through Gang Ranch, then north to Farwell Canyon and then meet Hwy 20 at Riske Creek. There should be fuel at the Native village just east of there. This route will take you through a lot of very scenic and changing geography. All big bike friendly.

Hi NW Coaster. Again thank you for suggestions. We will be both camping and staying at hotels, mostly camping. Are you allowed to camp off the road in BC? Any suggestions on good camping sites or camp grounds? Thanks!

Here is some info on camping on crown land. The issue will be how to determine what's crown land and what isn't. You may not have to though. There are tons of small rec sites dotted all over the province. It's just a matter of knowing where they are. Backroad Map Books is a great resource but you'd need a few different ones to cover the areas you're going, or you could get the digital version of the whole province but it gets kind of expensive. These books are available in many stores, as well as online. Here's a good free option that tells you something about each site but you need internet to see it.
You might find some resorts and B&B's along the way too if that's your thing.
