Just make sure you lock up your bike. (And then keep the keys);)

Are we gonna do a planning get together ?
Wing night somewhere or something?

No matter to me, I can share a room but I do snore. However, I've learned that an alternate snore in the alto range may cancel out the bass :p.

Cheers, Alex.

Excellent suggestion, Zeddy, did you have some place in mind? Maybe we could go for a ride some Sunday, and then go for a grits and suds social after, wings, pizza, burgers, whatever.

I just picked up on this thread - sounds like a real fun trip. I'd like to join if it can be done on aKLR650. What weekend are you planning on going? Any recommendationson tires? I still have the stock rubbers that seemsquirrly on gravel.

Thanks, Gordon

The trip is planned for June 9, 10, which is a Wed and Thurs. The trip can certainly be done on a KLR650 but there are places where some experience/skill will be required to get you through. However, there are enough of us going that getting several people to help/push you through the tight spots shouldn't be a problem.

There are a lot of KLR riders on this site who can give you a more informed opinion on what tires work best but off the top of my head I'd suggest a Dunlop 606, or a Continental TKC 80 for the rear and perhaps a Perelli MT21 for the front.

We currently have 9 riders who are signed on and another 7 waiting until they can confirm time off work. Ideally we'd like have no more than about 10 to 12 riders because any more than that becomes unwieldy. As it is we might break down into a faster group and a slower one to better accomodate individual riding preferences.

Don't mind sharing at all, but I don't mind camping either. I was planning on being prepared for either.
I think the Wing night is a greatidea too. ASunday would work fine. I'm in Port Coquitlam so any place in Maple Ridge is good.
I have a KLR, I just put on a new set of Michelin T63. They are a bit more aggressive that the stock set.
Like I said before, I'm a bit of a caboose so if you want to divide intogroups, that 's OK, besides might be better to cope with dust.
This is shaping up to be a great trip

North is into camping as well so maybe you two could get together for that.

Having a "wing" night is a great idea but I'm not so sure about Sunday. I usually get home from my Sunday ride in the late afternoon and I'm totally useless for anything but the couch from then on.

The current riders signed on live from Ladner to Abbotsford, with the majority in Surrey, so maybe a location in the Guildford - Fleetwood area of Surrey would be as central as we can get it. Does anybody know of a pub in that area that serves up a good plate of wings?

Hey Old Phart, welcome aboard.

With the Addition of Old Phart, that makes 10 riders signed on and 7 tentative. With that many riders it's almost mandatory that we break down into smaller groups or else the dust will be so bad that the guys to the rear of the group will be overwhelmed by it. This is one of the things we can talk about on our "wing" night.

John,

you won't have to break into groups. Rider spacing will happen naturally per the road/wind conditions at the time. I would recommend taking side trips down to 20 Mile Bay, & also to the hot springs.

Thanks, Arthur, I agree that spacing will naturally occurr, but with a dozen or more riders who are strangers to each other it might be better, especially if conditions are dry and dusty, to break down into groups of 4 or 5 each determined by compatability and depart at 5 to 10 minute intervals. I have no doubt that there will be several riders who want to ride the west Harrison road at speeds in the 80 to 100kph range while others will be happier doing 50 to 70kph or slower. With such a large group as this I think it makes sense to separate the faster riders from the slower ones and let the faster guys leave first. If we don't do this we will likely have faster riders trying to work their way through the pack, and if dusty conditions obscure boulders and pot holes this is not a good situation.

We should have lots of time to go to 20 mile bay and the hot springs, and for sightseeing, photoshoots and whatever else the groups want to do, except singing like this guy - I'd definitely draw the line at that.

How about this place for a wing night?

Guildford Station Pub,‎
10176 154 Street, Surrey

One of the comments was that it has the best wings around. Also, what night works best for everybody? Don't be shy, let us know what you think.

Weeknights not so good for me,early work start times make for early nightimes,my preference would be a Sat. lunch time.

Saturday lunch works for me. In case it doesn't work for others , Alex, how would you feel about an early start on a week night. What if we got together around 6:00PM? If that works for you then it puts some flexibility in our schedule. It's gonna be tough to find a time that works for every one.
