What the hell is up with Harley owners????? Are they not the most rude on the road, I said rude, not badass?? Or is just me, Just got home from a few kms(4399KM) ride, about half was highway and harley owners just don't wave....what's the deal??/

Sure some of them do, but on the whole they're just TOO COOL!
perhaps somebody can give me an idea what's going on, I may be too young to know the secret jackass harley code!!

It's funny you say that because I have a cruiser with the whole leather biker look and I have a KLR with the whole dual sport look. So I get both! I get sport bikers ignoring me on my cruiser and the cruiser guys ignoring me on my dual sport.

But there are extremests on both sides and as such I don't ever get biker bikers waving or the super sport guys waving either.

Next time someone waves at you, try flipping them the finger and while your at it lift your visor and start screaming at them. You'll make them wonder if they offended you with a secret hand sign. If he turns around and confronts you, apologize and say his hand sign means "Your mama was his woman last night" in dual sport hand sign language.

OK, I'm getting stupid but this is the bad dog forum.

Brian

P.S. Is there a DualSportBC hand sign. That would be cool to actually get a unique hand sign from some that you knew was a DSBC member. How about :mad3:eek:r :tup:eek:r :clap:eek:r :ted:eek:r even :wi:. OK, my vote is :wi:.

The're usually asses. Too kool, don't give a s*** or are better than us "normal" folk.

hehe...actually I think it's that they just can't take their hands of the bars at speed for fear of getting into a high speed wobble, or that the free bar end will start vibrating soo much that they will not be able to grab that sucka again:)

As for a secret wave....I give the Hardlie guys a :tup:that is my secret FU finger for them fellas...haha

I bought my first Harley new in 79 ($6200 FXEF Superglide). Back then there was kind of a brotherhood mentality. It was a good thing because you were riding a bike that was trying to blow apart from the moment you first kickstarted it. Half the good time was meeting people on the side of the road and solving the problem hands on. It took a certain kind of person to keep an old Harley running and I had a lot of respect for them. By the late 80's as Harleys got more reliable and more expensive the whole attitude changed. Now you had a bunch of weekend warrior idiots who took their bikes to the deeler to change their oil cause they didn't want to get their fingernails dirty. You could always tell the type by the sparkling clean bike, leathers, boots and the F--- you attitude to anyone that didn't ride a Harley. These a--holes are one ofthe reasons Harleys are getting a bad rap. I pulled into Horseshoe Bay on my KLRto wait for the ferry withmybike totally covered with Deadzone mud a week after the event. Threenew Harleys, two sport bikes and a gnarly old 1964 decker with about 200000 miles on itand a rider that matched the bike to a T. When I nodded hi to them allI got a nose in the air flip off from all but the old Harley. Wetalked bikes (KLR and Harley) while the restposed by their bikes for the tourists. Take notice on the road and you will see what I mean.

Too true!

I've found that generally, Harley guys in the USA are more friendlier than here. Seems to be more old timers still riding HD and putting lots of miles on them.

I used to commute on my bikes and when I met this guy every morning while on my TL1000S, he on his GSXR750 would allways wave. When I rode my KLR he completely ignored me:D

It allways made me laugh.

I wave to everybody , we're all on bikes aren't we?????? This past week I got a little pissed off at 10 TOO COOL Harley riders on Hwy 31A....those guys wouldn't let me pass , they were driving 60km/h~~~what the hell's up with that ! so I proceeded to weave throught them at a earth shattering 65km/h, not one wave and the ole' ladies on the back would even turn there heads.....It's unfortunate that the baby boomers have the cash and buy HOGs ...Although on my travels I did meet smart baby boomers on Dualsports!!!! Reassuring to say the least !!!!!!

wave to everybody...support the brotherhood of two wheels!!

Everyone who hurls themself along pavement or dirt on two wheels without a steel and glass cage around them is okay by me.

Please give a wave to everyone, even cruiser and scooter riders. And don't sweat what you get in return.

Keep the two-wheeled world as connected as possible!

Wow, sounds like people here have had some bad experiences with Harley riders. Do you not like Harleys or simply big cruisers made by anyone?

Remember there are stock Harleys that weigh within 25 pounds of what a stock BMW "dual sport" weighs. (Extreme example, sure: HD XL1200 versus a BMW GS)

I carved a good portion of US101 in Cali on a little Harley XL1200 and it was -fun-. :ss: Heavy, but low and simple and lots of good vibes and torque.

Anyways, to each their own, but I'll wave to a poser on a Harley before a poser in an SUV. :hb:

I have a cruiser as well and I went with suzuki because of price, style, fit, and reliability.

I feel Harley is a good looking bike and sounds great but they are ripping people off because of the Brand. It's a low tech mass production bike and they try to pass it off as something special. It's not a custom bike and therefore should not expect custom price. They even nail you on the options big time. If I was to buy a Harley I would just go for it and buy custom.

But it's really hard to re-sell a custom.

Overall I love cruisers. They feel great, are comfortable and look very stylish. I see more and more people moving to imports for cruisers and HD better be careful they don't lose market that may not come back. Or their only customers will be the biker gangs.

I rode from Delta to Whistler today, via the Fraser Canyon and Duffy Lake road. I was enjoying the ride so much that I decided to wave at every single motorcycle I saw (riders too!), almost everyone waved back and that included some pretty hard core harley riders.

I did discover that if I waved first at them with a real enthusiastic wave just about everyone waves back. Was fun and really showed me that most riders are riders first and brand freaks second (or maybe third)

The only folks I encountered who were really snooty were riding a late model Gold Wing with his buddy riding a big harley. They passed me while I was taking a photo on the side of the road. I waved at 'em, nothing back. I followed them for miles and even ended up stopped at a construction zone together. They refused to talk to me or even acknowledge my KLR based existance. :D

But rather than feeling angry with them I really felt sorry for them. Imagine having such a weak self-image that you have to buy a specific type of motorcycle so you can feel important by ignoring "lessor brands". Guess my 30+ years of riding and racing experience don't qualify me as a rider, the only thing that counts is the brand and type of motorcycle I buy. :shoot:

I'll continue testing"the wave"on my ride back to Delta. I'll bet at least 95% of all riders wave back too!

I'll post a couple of photos of todays ride later. It was faannttasticc!

hehe...thats funny that u mention that. Earlier on a ride this year we got onto hwy5 North after decending from Bonapart lake and headed toward Little Fort. A few km's after hitting the pavement I saw a trio of what looked to be "hard-core HD'rs" approaching towards us. I thought "Hey, I'll wave like a freek'n lunitic to these guys". So thats what I did. I looked in the mirror and it looked like they gave me the "Bird". "Well sc*ew them if they can't take a joke"!

AT the ferry I asked some of the guys that were behind me if they saw them Turds give me the finger when I waved to them. Well was I ever suprised.....they didn't"Bird" me, they waved back to me !

Isn't a Harley kind slow and Heavy, made for Old Short people to putt around on and tour with? Both my Mom and Dad have them, they love em...not me really. BMW makes big heavy bikes too, but the have balls and versatility, touring, sport, and off road all on the same bike really.

I wave to everyone....but I always finger the HD guys with the Beanies on...They never see it coming LOL !!

Some Dude on and Olive BMW snubbed his nose at me on the Malahat last week.:hb:Must have been my camo tires LOL

Got to tell ya, I've never had any problems with BMW types waving back. I find that they often wave before I get a chance to wave at them.

Maybe we should start a new dualsport theme. Wave at everyone and then we can feel superior to :mb:those who don't care to wave back.
