I just talked with Lars

Just came from the hospital here in Kamloops. Took him some clothes and glasses. He looks and sounds to be in good spirits(got a dose of morphine while I was there:dr:).

Broken clavicle and fractured pelvis. He's hoping to get shipped back to the Island today. His daughter was there from camping in the area. I gave him my Phone # if this trip back home falls through today and to give me a call if he needs anything.

Hope u have a speedy recovery Lars:ted:

Thx Greg.

Very good of you to take him some stuff & check in on him.

I too called yesterday and all that they'd agree to was confirm that he was a patient & stabilized...

Glad to hear that he's relatively ok & able to get shipped home. "Speedy recovery friend!"

Gregster,
Thanks for checking in on Lars and giving us the update. We knew Lars must have had a good reason for not wanting to stand-up -- fractured pelvis, ouch!

Lars, hope your recovery is quick and as painless as possible.
All the best,

Mike

Just talked to Ms Lars and she says he is still at Kamloops hospital going stir crazy. She is heading there tomorrow to pick him up.

When I talked to him by phone on Sunday he thought he was being airlifted home in one hour.

Talk about a scewup from the begining.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Lars.

Glad you made it out safely.

I Wish you had that helicopter ride you so deserved, and quickly arrived in Kamloops in style as you should have.

But another guy had different plans. He decided to make his own plan, and ignore the plan that you and us had made, and were following through with. He decided that he knew more about helicopters than I did, even with myself being a helicopter mechanic. He said that a helicopter could "never land up there". Not true, you just need to order the right sized helicopter.

Lars, you deserved to arrive IN STYLE!!! YOU DESERVED TO GET TO THE HOSPITAL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, WHICH MEANT USING THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE, AND US STICKING WITH THE PLAN!!!

WHAT HAPPENED?

IT IS IMPERATIVE TO STICK TO A PLAN ONCE MADE. PLANS FAIL IF NOT.

IGNORANCE AND ARROGANCE NEVER MAKE A SITUATION BETTER.

I couldn't have said it better... Only THOSE on the sence can "make" thedecissin about what is to be done and how serious the person is hurt.NO ONE SHOULD CHALLENGE THAT DECISSION, especially if they are not on the scence and not a Paramedic.Hopefully this is made clearfor any and all other accidents!!!!

Please be careful guys, this should not turn into a "lets blame one person issue". There were many mistakes made here. Everyone was trying to do the "right" thing. It just turned out a poor decisions were made by several people, that had bad information.

It is very important that we learn from what happened and be better prepared in the future.

I will be starting a new forum to help with this process.

I wasn't there so I am not here to comment on what happened. My recent broken foot experience while out riding with the guys had me thinking that in the future when their is agroup a person should be assigned the responsibility to be in charge of such as accidents. In thecase of my recent arguement with a tree we deferred to Scotty who is highly trained as a firefighter, so their was only one chief. Believe me it felt good having someone in charge who knew what they were doing.

So perhaps on future DeadZone runs as an example their can be someone or two people with the necessary experience/training assigned toeach of the A, B and C groups for this reason.

All the best to Lars, :tup:and I'm glad that so many people had a great time. Maybe next year I will be able to come along to, barring my bike being stolen again, or another close encounter with a stubborn tree.

Lars get well soon. I was nice meeting you. Thanks for the warning. You snore real loud. The ear plugs came in handy.

Let us all learn form this lesson. I suggest the sweepers have sat phones & GPS's. GPS will give the exact location of the crash site and the phone can be used to relay information between parties that require it.

If it means a higher entry fee next year let it be. You can put a price on human life. Time can be the difference between life & death.

Skip the sat phones GPS's, those are nice things to have.

The most important thing everyone on these backroad rides should have is

FIRST AID

A simple first aid course would have changed the whole outcome here.:(

Now that you have your first aid, you will know what the right thing to do is.

So sign up for a course today, you'll be glad you did. :ted:Do it for Lars

TT

This thread should be for Lars, I will start another for how we should deal with accidents off road.

Hi Tom.. I just wanted to say that I was not blaming anyone, just trying to pass on the information that I have learn in my First Aid Courses and that is, the person on the scene "makes the call"... more for next time cause what's done is done but lets all learn from the mistakes made here..

The GPS co-ordinates were part of the plan, we passed them on to the pilot, and he went right to the position.

That is why, when the helicopter arrived, they found nothing. He was already being bumped along with broken bones.

I agree, enough about this topic on Lars' thread. Could these posts be moved somewhere else?

Lars, you one tuff sucka!

When I saw you on the trail, smiling, joking, and waving your arm around, you had me convinced you were shirking. And I almost had you convinced to jump back on and ride out, didn't I?

As it turns out, maybe you wish you did! The indignity ridin' biatch - on a quad, at that - man, thats low!

In all seriousness though, here's to a speedy recovery.
