Indian Arm – get it while you can.

Went for a great ride today on the Indian Arm trail. There has been a lot of work done to the road since I was last there. The famous 2 log river crossing is no longer there, replaced by a brand new bridge. All the washouts have been smoothed out and there are about 100 new spoon drains along the road. When we arrived at the jetty opposite Wigwam inn, we met Peter, who was eating lunch during a day out on the water. He has been involved with the Vancouver Yacht Club and the He told us that Teresan gas gave the local (Tsleil-wau-tuth First Nation?) band council $800K to use as an upgrade to the road and bridges. The idea in improving these is that this will cut down on erosion and damage to road and therefore lessen impact on fish stocks and local fauna. Unfortunately there is a "belief" that once work is complete that the bridge will be destroyed, the entrance well blocked and patrolled! There is about 100 tonnes of rocks freshly dumped on the single track that continues south east from the jetty. There are also a lot of new Road Closed signs on the trail.

I sincerely hope that we as riders may continue to use this area “undisturbed” however I highly recommend that you get out there in the next 2-3 weekends.

A lot of heavy machinery on the road. This ride was by far the easiest ( and quickest) I have done. Apart from about 1,000 drainage ditches it was smooth sailing.

Couple of nice guys we met on the trail.

I see an average of 37 KLRs every time I go to Indian Arm. :)

Tried to ride thorugh today and was stopped by a missing bridge.

There were three excavators at the site and it looked as though it would be replaced eventually, but that's a guess.

I think someone more aggressive with a smaller bike may have gotten through, but not me on my DR650.

Here is a photo of the "new" bridge I found when I road IA. This is the bridge that would stop most people if they removed.
