Well I got some things figured out and a little more put together on the bike. It turns out that the carb overflow problem was me being a dumass and hooking the fuel line to the float vent and the float vent line to the fuel inlet. I guess that would overflow the carb quite easy. The fuel petcock is still going to need some new "O" rings and seals so it dosn't leak though. Once I get thos seals I can finally get it running for good. I put the decals on and assembled the rest of the bike as well as installed my Acerbis Multiplo touring handgaurds. One other snag that I had was that I broke off the attachment tabs on the right hand rad shroud. They were folded over pretty bad before but I thought that I would try painting it and using it anyways. I will try to glue them back on but I think in the end I will have to get another one. If anyone has a spare one, I could use it. One nice thing about it is that the color doesn't matter as I will paint it anyway. Anyway I should be able to ride it soon. Here are some more pictures.

I'm jealous!!!! That's effin sweet.... Personally, probably would have left the decals off. I think you should send the photo to kawasaki.... maybe they'll finally realize that a black KLR is what the world needs.

Nice work, can't wait to see some photos of it all covered in mud in the middle of a stream!

You know something If I was looking fora KLR I would buy your project in an instant, and even with the decals. The yellow contrasts the black nicely, but then just about anything would have looked good against the black. Come to think of it that's probably why I like my'05' with the red and black so much.

Look forward to seeing it in person.:hb:

VI.
PS Nice shop. I'm sooo jealous.

Wow, best '88 I've ever seen. It sure beats the original barbie colours. I think the only mistake you may have made is if you bought those new looking tires. The oem Dunlops aren't that great, they're not bad, just not worth the high cost. You'll enjoy this bike, just remember it's no WR offroad.

Thanks for the kudos, I think it looks pretty dam good too. The tires were dirt cheap, I got them off of ebay as brand new take offs for only $70.00, I am sure they are not the best tires around but it helped me get this thing together under budget. I also picked up a brand new shock off of ebay for only $95.00, the one I had was totaly shot and worked like a pogo stick. I am quite aware that this bike is no WR 426 and I will not be doing the kind of brutal single track offroad style riding with it as I do with my Yamaha. I plan more adventure touring style riding with only gravel roads and two track trials for the off pavement stuff. My next project after the bike is totally done will be some aluminum saddlebags so I can pack some stuff with me when I go some distance. It should be fun.

That bike is the bomb Greg. When you told me you were building it I was positive it would work out great! It has come a long ways since I saw it last. I finnaly insured the XR today and have put about 100km's on it already since noon. I tore off the smog pump and cleaned that up but I am now looking for a different rear section including the fender and taillight assemby, thinking of an Acerbis style integrated turn and tailight underfender unit. I'll have to call you sometime here. Brad.
