You're right there, I've taken anything and everything off road, but the V-Strom is actually not a half bad bike to take offroad and oddly enough handles sand better than a KLR. The 1000 is still a beast though but so easy to ride. That guy on his R1 is nuts, but I think I saw a Sweede do the same thing around the world. My back feels sore just looking at him.malachi wrote:LET ALL THE NAY SAYERS EAT CROW!!!!....the v-strom can't go offroad...ppffttt!!!!
...I say BS....!:wi:

30 lbs differance and ive read the 1000s rear tire spins alot on gravel roads . on hard pack dirt i can open the throttle fully from a crawl in firston my 650 strom and the tire wont spin . the power band is so flat there are no suprises any where in the rev range . the bike will chug like a big thumper down low . and scream like a sportbike at 10,000 rpm . the mid range has tractor like power for such a small motor . the bike can putt around a tight trail like a 450 pound trials bike . make really good time on logging roads . but has soft wheels and low ground clearanceHow big is offroad difference between 650 & 1000?
ive been told this is an awsome road , heading from vernon do you turn left at armstrong or enderby or before that ? or turn right somewhere on the road too falkland?
After starting this thread over 2 years ago, I still have and love my Vstrom 1000. Put many thousand miles on it on the pavement and gravel roads this Summer. Still have not dropped it, but mostly because I refuse to ride it like a KLR in the woods! Very glad I chose the 1000 over the 650. Main reason is that often my wife comes along and its so much safer passing semis on the highways loaded down with a 1000 even in crosswinds. Lots of fun power and never a bobble. Tried my friends 650 loaded up and with my wife on and for safety alone on long trips the 1000 is in another league completely. Far more secure on passing with gobs of power and stability. If I was just by myself on long trips, the 650 would be fine and probably a more sensible choice, but then you'd still lose out on all the fun and power that comes with the bigger strom.
Don't get me wrong though as I ride 2 up with my wife often on our KLR, but from a fun/safety factor, the 1000 kills the wee 650 any day for long trips.

Now after two years dont you think you deserve a new one and let this one make someonelse happy:dude:
After two years your Bike still looks great. :tup:The skid plate and crash bar look good too.
My Brother got a 650 strom last year. I tryed to get him to go for the 1000, but he didn't. (His previous bikes was an older KLR.) He just loves the strom and can't believe how nice it is to ride.
