Since 2011 a group of DualSportBC Members make the pilgrimage to Moab Utah in April. This adventure clears the cobwebs, that rain and snow has managed to form over the winter months. Lots of organization goes into managing a small group of about 10 riders (cats). This trip is always by invite as the accommodations are limited but every year we have several new participants and this year is no different. It is always fun to have new riders join us for their first trip to Moab. Everyone that has joined us on this trip has upped their riding skills by several notches, however there is always that learning curve and can be painful at times. If you are interested in previous Moab Trips with lots of pictures just do a search of "iwannaridemoab" in the search bar for this site. we have trip reports from 2011

-----------------------------------

April 5 2019 The Accommodations Moab Retreat House

Time to get this post underway. It is launch day for the BC guys bound for Moab Ut. Hoping to get the guys to take pictures of their ride down, pictures of happy faces in the rain, sleeping in trucks, gas stops with groggy looks from traveling all night and finally the happy faces when they finally arrive here in Moab, where it is sunny and warm. This trip is similar to previous trips where the group will be staying at the Moab Retreat House for the week.

As you can see by the picture the Moab Retreat House is a large Duplex. the iwannaridemoab guys only rent one half at about 400 usd per night plus some other additional fees (2019). When spread across 9-10 riders the price is pretty affordable and beats sleeping in a tent any day. The house includes 2 Kitchens (one for Breakfast and Dinners and the other for Lunch Preparations) Lots of beds, 4 bathrooms (important for some of the older riders) 2 Living rooms, big garage, Laundry, BBQ, Lots of Parking.WiFi You get the point there is a lot of value here.

Note photos are stolen from the Moab Retreat House Gallery without permission

This is the bedroom the organiser gets (I am not him) he even gets his own bathroom. It should be noted that the organiser usually shares this room with someone

Of course to fit 10 people into this house there is bound to be some more basic accommodation, Don't you remember how you always wanted to stay in the top bunk? well now you can. These are usually reserved for the newer attendees or the late payers.

April 5 Pre Ride

This year I am not actually participating with the DSBC group from the North as I have been traveling in Baja and will be meeting the group here. I am also glamping at the Sand Flats Recreation Area in my Motorhome. So I will not be participating in some of the extracurricular activities at the Moab Retreat House, but instead I will ride down from my campsite (about 8 miles away) to the Moab Retreat House and meeting up with the group in the mornings.

For this trip I will be camping at the Sand Flats Recreation area campsite https://w3w.co/uses.ditching.corrections

I will be using the What3Words online addressing app to show any locations, just click on the link

I arrived a few days earlier than the main group and finally got the bike off the MH and went riding yesterday. Decided on a simple route about 75 kms, East out of the park on Sand Flats Road, to Lasal Loop Road to Ken's Lake and back on Spanish Valley Road.

Did not think this route would take me into the snow but here I am. And its cold too.

DSC00007 by Tom Timmerman, on Flickr

This is a good road for any DS bike, It looks like the snow has just cleared as there are no tracks visible and the surface is soft, scenery is spectacular as expected.

DSC00008 by Tom Timmerman, on Flickr

yup a trail with snow on it, and you know I just cant resist. Could not go very far.

DSC00009 by Tom Timmerman, on Flickr

the road eventually turned to pavement, who paves roads up in the mountains? there is nobody here? Anyhow if your going to have paved roads these are the type I like
10 and 15 mph curves, rough surface and lots of sand and gravel spread about to keep you honest.

April 8 Moab Kane Creek, Steel Bender

More pictures to follow but for now here are mine

Kane Creek for some reason is always a favourite of mine, perhaps it is because it always gives me lasting memories (or is that lapsing memories)?
