Okay we are set for the 8th of June from 11am till 3pm cost is $160 plus tax. 4 spaces 2 confirmed, 1 probable so 1 space left, maybe 2.

Location Popkum Motorsports.

I gave them the list Ron provided from his posting, so that's what we will be learning.

I plan on setting up another 4 hour lesson in July to build on the June techniques.

(as per the above mention of Ron's list) here the proposed list of exercises to be included:

1) slow riding.
2) accelerating and braking in straight line including lots of 3 rider drag races.
3) stoppies - braking with front brake and lifting rear wheel.
4) locking front wheel while under power and keeping control.
5) flat cornering.
6) drifting around corners.
7) turning 180degrees quickly by using rear brake to slide 90 degrees and then
power slide the remaining 90 degrees.
8) riding through straight ruts at high speed and standing.
9) riding through corner ruts.
10) grinding - rear wheel and front wheel heading in same direction on different lines. ie. front wheel on one side of log and rear wheel on other side or rear wheel in deep rut and front wheel up on high ground or front wheel on trail and rear wheel over the edge.
11) etc. etc. etc.
Many other details are covered which relate to the above. Body position, grip, clutch and brake control (only use one or two fingers), arm positions, foot positions, how far to look ahead (for each skill and for different speeds).

Thanks Offworlder for the new thread.

I have set it up with Tylane at Popkum for the 8th June 11am till 3pm so about 4 hours.

We could probably stretch it to add North as my brother may have to go out of town last minute so we would be 5 possibly 4.

With 5 we should be fine.

I will confirm with Tylane and get back to you Thursday on cost for 5.

1. Andrew
2. Zach
3. Graham
4. Offworlder
5. North

What I would ask you to do is call Tylane at Popkum once I get the final #'s and pay them directly. Would prefer not to get involved in the finances.

I would like to do another course in July to polish up what we learn in June, same idea 4 hours from 11am till 3pm.

I want to ask them if they will help out with big bikes as well. I plan on getting knobbies on the 1190 ADV R soon and would like some practise before I bite off more than I can chew:rolleyes:

If there is another dirt school day save me two spots.

Will let you know how it goes. I am sure that if it is successful they will repeat it and organize more regular courses. I am hoping to convince them into doing some big bike classes on the enduro course.

Maybe some of the more experienced riders can draw up a 2 or 3 step curriculum for Popkum to teach us that covers what we need for dualsport.

That way we could get Popkum to set up Beginner-Intermediate -Advanced Skills workshops each say 4 hours long.
Something like these classes:

or these

All set for the 8th June. Cost is $160 plus tax for the 5 of us.

Can you call in your visa info or visit Popkum and pay.

Let me know if you want to learn anything specific.

If all goes well we will set up another lesson in July adding some more skills to the June lesson.

Hopefully we can set this up as a regular training course with Popkum.

Cheers,

Andrew

Called the track today (778.255.RIDE (7433)) to pay my course fee, spoke with Tylane and got some more details:

- $160/person is an awesome deal, as this is the group rate, normally $75/hour
- if wanting to ride the track afterwards, will need to purchase a $30 day ride pass
- We'll likely get to play in the recently built enduro park ! Its got logs, boulders, etc... http://www.popkummotorpark.com/page.php?id=7
- Please arrive at least 15 minutes beforehand to sign waiver, get yer wristband, etc….

Woo hoo ! This'll be great fun !

Hoping the ride school on the 8th doesn't create pictures like Death Valley. A sign would be a good idea reading "Don't Do It". If the river wasn't so high I would have tried that route out.

10 minutes down and 2 hours to get back out, glad it was near the end of the day. That beer at the Jolly M.... went down nicely afterwards.

My brother may drop out of the course but I won't know for sure till about the 5th June, so if anyone wants to be on call let me know.

a - We installed signs at both ends many months (over a year?) ago. They were still there last weekend (I checked); which is kind of nice since some get swiped / vandalized.
b - The riverbed is not a viable option. We've tried that in the past.
c - It's dangerous out there / gotta use your head.

Thinking of organizing a work party with the quaders to improve (repair) that hill...
