Kamloops riding areas

Just to back up Loopsrider:

The second weekend is September, I was with a group camping at Duffy lake.

The main trail around the lake was blocked with wind fall, We had three different menbers of the GKMA come by our camp sites asking for money. We asked if they are going to remove the blockages. They said no but we will collect the money for the camp site. This was a new policy because the years before the Forestry stopped collecting after the long weekend.

The GKMA did nothing for us.

PS: We ourselves cleared theblockages.

It's starting to sound like new blood is needed in the GKMA.

Seems to be working like a government thats been in power for far too long.

So why waite until lnext year to start attending the meetings?

Good point. I went to their web site, but it looks like they haven't updated any of the info for when and where the meetings are since 2006.:hr: You said they meet the second Wed of each month, but do they meet over the winter too, or? And where and at what time? I guess I'll fire them of an e-mail, see if those addresses are still current or also from '06.:f:

I am not coming to the defence of GKMA, but wish to point out a few things.

GKMA manages the campsite for BC forest service and this does not include the trails, the pervious managers contract was not renewed.

I camped there on the way to Loose Screw, Mon to Thur., no charge. After Loose Screw, I spent severial weeks there.

They came and collected on week-ends, it costed me $10.00 per week to park in this campsite. There is agood number of toilet in the campsite, some were added by GKMA, that are kept in very good condition and supplied with TP. Not flush toilets as there is at Lac Le Jaune, but not $133.00 per week either.GKMA also did some work on the camp sights.

There was largenumbers of campers in the area, outside of Duffy Lake campsite some that had their owenmakeshift toilets built.

To suggest that we tell GVMA how to spend any money raised by this endeaver is counter productive to the avancement of recreation.

My 2 cents worth.

I hear ya...

I'm sure they do quite a bit of work on the campsite up there. Any time I have gone through therethe camplooks prety good.

But if they are promoting the area for ORV use I think trail maintaince should be on their list also.

I wouldn't say it is counterproductive to suggest things to spend GKMA money that was a product of revenue from the campsite... of course if Joe Blow without a membership busted into a meeting and started telling them what to do would be silly... I'm voicing my opinion nowand if they happen to read it then fine..... However when I'm a member these things will be brought up again...

For the record I think they are doing an excellent job with the campsite. I've actuallyridden with one of the GKMA board of directors that collected money and maintained it out there for a majority of the summer... He's done an outstanding job. The place is spottless...

My issue is that the GKMA claims fame to the entire area out there, and promotes riding the entire area (even on their website...among other riding areas they do not maintain) but only maintains the immediate area surrounding the campground.

Bottom line....Theentire area is promoted by the GKMA... They only maintain the campsites as of now, and not enough money and time is put into the surrounding area for trail maintenance, garbage cleanupetc...The result is the area is being destroyed....

As for the GKMA membership and attending meetings...I'm at the understanding thatthe memberships expire the end of the year and new ones are sold in the new year.. I would sooner not pay for a full year to attend only their last meeting of 2008. I was unaware of how destroyed the areas were getting until this riding more of the areas this fall and that is why I'm fired up...

I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THIS CONVERSATION ABOUT THE GKMA. I AM NOT A MEMBER OF THE GKMA HOWEVER THEY HAVE DONE ALOT IN THE PAST IN KAMLOOPS. IN THE LATE 70-80S THEY POSTED AND MAINTAINED TRAILS IN THE BATCH AREA AND DID A GOOD JOB. THEY PUT ON GOODS EVENTS AND ARE ORGANIZED. THEY ARE TO BE COMMENDED FOR THE JOB THEY HAVE DONE AT DUFFY LAKE. IT IS A VERY NICE AREA AND WHEN SOMEONE WHO IS NOT INVOLVED WITH MOTORCYLES CAMPS THERE AND SEES WHAT A GOOD CAMPSITE IT IS THAT IS VERY POSITVE FOR THE IMAGE OF WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE WE AS MOTORCYLE RIDERS ARE. ASK CAMPERS WHO ARE NOT MOTORCYLISTS AND HAVE BEEN ANNOYED BY PEOPLE WHO RIDE AND ARE NOT CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS AND IT IS VEY NEGATIVE. WE DO NOT NEED THIS IN OUR SPORT . GKMA OR DUALSPORT B C OR ANY ORGANIZATION INVOLVED WITH MOTOR SPORTS SHOULD ALL WORK TOGETHER . WE DO NOT NEED NEGATIVITY AND IT SHOULD NOT CONCERN ANY ONE WHO IS NOT A MEMBER OF THE GKMA HOW THE MONEY THEY COLLECT IS ALLOCATED. ENOUGH SAID!

I never said they are not doing a good job at Duffy campground.... I actually commended them and the people thathost thecampground on it...

I'm saying if they want to promote an entire area then they should maintain that area entirely. They put on races and promote the areas on their website...yet I;m not seeing much to maintain them.... I waited all fall for an announcement of a work bee to help these areas out....yet nothing happened. Sure, they've got some people on their board of members that do a lot of PR work with ranchers, the forestry etc.. but when it comes down fronting the bucks or organizing cleanup days etc..to maintain these areas I'm just not seeing much done...

And last time I checked it is a free world and I can say whatever I want about whatever organization Icare to.....If this board doesn't like it that's too bad...

FWIW.... Productive negativity gets results.....Something that no-one in this sleepy little town realizes... that is why the trail network is in the shape it is... The GKMA should take the general public and non-members opinions a little more seriously...They are the ones who say what's on their mind and don't fear any rebuttal by their peers...

and there never is "ENOUGH SAID".......that is just a cop-out for people who chose not to be involved..... If you to be one of those people then maybe thissport isn't for you...

Lets fight the government not each other.

None of us really know what the GKMA is doing because we have never attended the meetings.

In the spring I plan to become a member along with my 14yo son and see what it's all about. Maybe there is something Connor and I can help out with...he has many years of interest left on this topic.

I've asked one bike shop owner/GKMA member to post some info here on the site here but that has not happened yet.
