No GPS files, but there is a vast network of roads up there, backroad mapbook is a great resource for that, but, theres enough logging going on up there that even the mapbook or google earth may not have everything. There's some old trails that are now huge roads......

It doesn't show it on maps yet, but head up to Bonapart lake via Jameson creek fsr and you can follow all the way to the west end of the lake . From there head down to cRASH cREEK OR into the Green lake area.
This is a fully active logging road though.

Look at the lake on Google Earth.
The access at the south East end is now connect to the FSR's on the SW side of lake.

I know the back way through Red Creek Ranch's hay fields near Bonaparte Lake over to Machette Lake. I grew up on the ranch and we push cattle to Machette every year for range. I know lots of back trails up there.

Thanks guys that is some good info, my brother has a cabin on Machette so I can take my time finding a 'fun' way through to it without having to turn mid day.
I will give it until the end of March and try it then ( depending on the weird white stuff that is around ).
Bora, I may be picking your brain a bit as I do not want to get into someones ranch without permission.

On a side note what would be involved in doing a dualsport event in this area? I mean a watered down type loose screw event. Forest service roads, no private land, a bit of single track and long distance. It seems a lot of dualsport events in bc are disappearing because of access issues and we have ALOT of area around here. I know probably a ton more involved to organize than I think even keeping it basic.
Just thinking out loud......

That could be fun. It's a huge area, and the destinations are almost limitless. Quesnel, Wms Lk.......Turn it into an overnighter somewhere.......

That sounds like what I was thinking. around 1000-1500km split into 2 days. No timing or sweeps. Generally an organized 2day ride.

That is big mileage and services are far apart in that area. It would have to be C/C+ type of riding for the miles you are thinking.

Why don't you help out with the Loose Screw planning this year if you have a desire to create Dual Sport magic :D

i didn't want to be a wimp, and say that 750 km/day is BIG miles for a day in the dirt- But it is! thks bora, and also mentioning that fuel/sleeping quarters may be few and far between-maybe this ride should be done over a few more days?

Its a supertanker ride for sure. I think Dorky has done it a few times on his 640 Adv, but if I recall it was around 7-8 day round trip.

I know that the Loose Screw B loop takes 6.5-10 hours and it isn't even 300km.

BTW, 750km is a big day even on pavement...my biggest day ever was 1450km in one day, but that was on my 1150GSA across Montana and Wyoming on the Interstate.

Klrroo,

If you go back to your original plan of Kamloops to Machete lake it should be an achievable ride without too much effort. I went from Sheridan lake to Cache Creek and back in one day via the Bonaparte lake and Vidette route. It was about 350 kms round trip and it took me 8 hours which including getting lost for a couple of hours. You could ride up on day one spend the night at your brothers cabin and then come home on day 2. I believe the closest gas from Machete lake would be the Bridge lake store.

I was up yesterday and there is a good 4 feet of snow through that area. probably be safe to ride through mid may depending on weather.......

Yah looking at the mileage it would be a bit much. I have a nice 325km loop planned and it looks great on paper but we all know how that goes! Fuel should not be an issue with the exxon pumpkin.
4 feet....that is gonna take a little while to go away....I will give it a shot at the 1 foot mark.
