This is Going to be an ongoing little report on what I have been doing while the snow has prevailed this last winter.

I have spent many hours scouring Ebay. USPS is slow. UPS is notworh while. My last package from a place with a couple of stars has finally.........arrived.

A few feet of baseboard left on the HONEY Do List and it will be soon time to hit the garage.

I know I will not be able to match the serious farkle Chuck had on hismean 650before he totalled it but I am sure having fun trying.

For interest here begins the record of my quest for

"My Highly Farkled Beyond Recognition KLR 650"

This is one of the first precious bling items.

Moab Shock by Cogent Dynamics. This has been custom built just for me and my ride. They were really good to deal with.

PS

Scored a lot offuture ride time, points etc, and knocked a whole whack off the Do list by installing the stairrailing system I am leaning on.

Just for the record, I would like to let people know what I have done so far.

I started with a stock 1990 KLR and installed the little luggage racks last summer and some soft Oxford luggage. I installed the Moose skid plate and some Pirelli MT 21's.

So, as it goes, the influence of some the well seasoned weded riders rubbed off on me and I decided to start Blinging.

I had always heard about this thing called a Doo Hickey....

Here is what all the fuss is about.

Evidently, this piece may self destruct and cause you to have to walk out of the bush and plus be late for supper. Oh, it will toast the motor too.

So I felt real good about doing the do. Thanks to Nat for the wrench...( it is still in my toolbox just so you know where you left it). And thanks to myself for scraping thegasket surfaces. And thanks to Island Hopper for turning the wrenches, and generally being a great mechanic bike guy.

One white haired rider or (was it blond in former days)told me wisely that I mayloose my licence plate like one of my friends did on the Side Bay run last summer.

So I did my version of "raising the Plate"

I also did something else that is quite awesome. But I will get to that later.

I also heard that if you follow too close to the wild riders that ride orange and blue or just black ones and whose names might end in (f)rog, that have money to burn off their huge knobbies, That it could smash your headlight. So I did this:

This next one was really necessary because after travelling the back horse trails behind my house, I went through a huge muddy deep trench. I thought nothing of if because of my superior KLR single track riding skilss, I conquered it without upset. So I go home, park the bike and then decide to hit the slab for a quick trip into town to pick up some movies. All was going well until I eased the rear brake pedal down and down and couldnt find a rear brake pedal...in fact my foot realized it did not have pedal to push.

What happened evidently is quite common for stock KLR brake billets. They break on impact. Turns out while I was conquering the trench, I hit a buried boulder underwater that took out my rear brake pedal.

This new billet is made out of solid aluminum instead of the cast aluminum that breaks just because youre having fun...

The gaurd will protect the rear Master cylinder.

This is where the stock ones break.

Voila

Those were the easy fixes. You read here and read there that the subframe could fall off when you least expect it and make you late for something...

So this is what I did,...the subframe bolt upgrade....Basically you order this kit online and wait for ever and a few days wondering if the business is still there or whatever and then all the bling pieces arrive and you are happy again.

Subframe is under your seat and thats where the new bolts go. You will be glad you did this upgrade when you see the size of the little stock bolts compared to the great big bolt.

I was gonna do it all that Saturday, Sunday....I did and am glad.

Here is the kit and the comparison

Little and Big

This new big guy went right in there, under the tank and seat above the battery...and straight on till morning....

This is where "my precious" rests and works now....( side note: now with the improved suspension...oh I will get to that later...)

I figured if I was going to do the rear suspension, I might as well do the front....So in goes the progressive springs and emulators ( Race Tech)

There is quite of bit of good reading to be done on the subject....This is what I know....Oh First this is how it looks to get these put in.

I started with a set of forks off of an 04 KLR from Ebay....

While I was at it I figured I better check out the grease on the stearing bearings...Glad I did this because it sure needed it.

This is my KLR with its nose on backwards

Side view

Mayhem to the unsuspecting...

Oh yes, the stock tank went and I put this IMS tank on. Had an issue with the venting.Original little hose got pinched off and actually stalled out the bike. So this little mod worksgeat. It selfthreaded in the cap and I can put a tank bag on top of it now.

I guess every one noticed the Corbin seat. That was the coolest find in all of this project....Ebay, buy it now....I scooped it from a California guy. Huge difference.

Island Hopper noticed this item on the Adrider site...Scored it from a guy up in North Alberta.

I put heated grips on and found this KLR Dash on Ebay...The sellar gave great service.

I put a lessknobby tire on.

And now for the Bling show

I failed to mention the little treasure that accidentally came in an ebay package....I did not know what it was at first....much to my delight it was a LED tail and brake light. Anyone knows what it comes off of....If it comes off of anything with a carrot like substance associated with it do not let me know....I think it looks cool

PS...I will straighten out the plate.

Fairly sleek looking Machine wouldnt one say so....

Take me somewhere soon...

Thats all for now

With your new stiffer suspension your going to have to extend the sidestand so the wind doesn't blow it over...

Your bike has more of an Adventure stance to it now... You just need some KTM components round it off...
