Does anyone know how to properly adjust the rear brake calipers?

I had the rear wheel off for a tire change and re-installed the wheel no problem. Went out for a test ride and found that the rear brake squealed loudly when engaged. It's not spinning freely and the brake seems a bit tight.

The Clymer manual talks about properly adjusting the rear calipers to ensure that the wheel spins freely but doesn't tell you how to do it. :?

I don't think that the wheel could be a bit off after just removing the axle and not adjusting the alignment?

I didn't know that there was adjustment. I'm thinking something stuck between pad and rotor

check that you have your axle bushings/spacers if equiped on the proper sides of the wheel

Side hint here. Check that the pad backing plate did not score up your rotor, and that the pad itself is still in good shape. I agree, the manual is kind of vauge on the rear brake "adjustment". There is actually no way to "adjust" the caliper/pads/rotor.

If your pedal is still too low, then try taking the wheel off, and pumping the brake CAREFULLY until the pads are closer together. CAREFULLY pry them apart, but just enough to get the rotor back in there. Re-install the wheel, and carry-on.

Calipers are put together with a square seal, and that's designed to flex when you apply lever pressure, and then when it goes back to square, it pulls the piston back. If you push the pistons all the way back into the bore, it will "reset" the travel of the piston. It will usually fix itself after a bit of use, but if you want to avoid that, you could try the method above.

I think it's about time that I pulled the calipers off for a good clean and service anyways. I'll use your tips when I put them back on again.
