I have an 08 KLR and changed toprogressive springs, cartridge emulators and preload adjusters on my front forks and a cogent dynamics rear shock. This new setup has made a huge difference in my suspension.

One additional side benefit in improving my suspension is that it raised the bike up a bit more (no- did not change the dog bones) which resulted in a much better tilt for the bike when on its side stand.

Ichanged toa 14 tooth countershaft sprocket to slow down first gear as I ride mostly off-road and wanted to go slower without using the clutch so much.

I also put on Galfer green brake pads up front, Galfer black for the rear and Russell stainless braded brake lines. The braking is now excellent.

Well, I am no guru on this, and I only just did it but.....

I put on the Eagle Mike raising links on my 08 KLR650. The idea is to change the geometry and hence stiffen the rear end. This mod still offers full travel and does not interfere with the pre-load or rebound adjustments.

I am not a tall guy, (32 inch inseam) but the one inch lift does not seem like a stretch at all. The centre stand now does not lift either wheel off the ground but will be okay for chain maintenance anyway.

It is a $70US mod vs the $400 for the spring/shock. It might work for you too.

:)
