Hi there - probably a dumb question, but....If I don't ride my bike for a week ormoreit gets harder and harder to start everytime I fire it up before it gets so bad that Ineed to get the carbs cleaned out. My kawi service guys tell me that if I'm not going to ride for more than 2 weeks that I should drain the carb. This right? Thanks in advance for any insight.....

He is right. Our KLX250 is the same. Hard starting if it sits for longer than a few days. No change after re-jetting either.

Drain the float bowl and it will start.

Next time you are about to park it, shut the fuel off with the bike idling and let it run till it stalls. Will start ok next time.

Thanks for the tip on turning fuel off when idling. I'll give this a try!

Now I am just repeating stuff I read on other forums, not sure if I believe it or not but.........

I heard that by turning of the fuel and "Running her dry" You land up with a real lean condition that could do damage to your bike.

If any knowledgeable people could confirm/deny this That would be great

In that case, our engines would be damaged when switching to reserve on the highway.
The engine goes very lean under load, at higher rpm, almost dies before you manage to switch over to reserve. No damage takes place.

An idling fourstroke stalls quickly when going lean and there is no load.

Possibly applies to overheated two strokes if you rev it hard as it goes lean.
