KTM 950 or 990 Adventure

I'm in the market to buying a 950/990. I see a few on craiglist but the prices are bit high. I was planning on looking in the states. There’s a few on advrider.com.

The only question I have is if someone knows the logistics of importing the bike into Canada. I have bought a truck before in Portland a few years ago, so I'm a bit familiar with importing with RIV but just curious if KTM is a hassle to deal with in terms of getting a clearance letter and warranty.

Also a stupid question on the difference between the 950 and 990 is? I assume the 950 was the older version with carb and the 990 replaced it recently and it's EFI. Is this correct?

Any help is appreciated.

The 950 is carburated and the 990 is fuel injected.

2 guys on ADV , one with an SE950 wanted injection, the other with a 990 wanted it carbed.

YThey swaped all necessary components .

THe 990 owner is tickled pink with his new carbed 990. Wheelies and smooth as silk he says.

The guy that put the injection on the SE wants carbs again.

Here's the scoop.....

The engine has been re-done. (mixed feelings on that)

The reason is that the trans would slip into neutral.

All the work was just done at Valley Motorsports in Kay-Lowna( U can call them foe details on repairs that were done.

The battery needs replacing

All the "mods" are done (all emmisions crap gone)

Just price reduiced.

Prety low K's

Prety new skin on front.

Slim & Trim

Previously LOVED

New $250 Rally Raid

Thanks Joker for checking it out. I do like the first one in Victoria.

It's an 04 but half the miles. Plus I like the blue color. But the states still has the best deals. The one on advrider is $12K but has about 5-6k of aftermarket stuff on it already. The guy's is in Ca. I'm curios if anyone bought one from down there and has some experience on it.

It is now. I just moved like 4 weeks ago. I'm planning on doing a big trip next year to Inuvik and Alaska.

And i sold the harley too about a month ago, so I got tons of room.

Prices are pretty ridiculous in the states right now, it seems hard to compare prices. The bike above is priced a bit high even for Canada. I guess if people are willing to overpay for HD's, . . . . I'm keen on the carbed 950's myself.

04 w/ 11,500 miles, $6500. Far from stock.

05.5 950s w/ 12,300, sexy blue, $8500. Also countless extras

Yes this all great but going back to my original question, has anyone imported a KTM in the last few years from the US. If so I want to talk to you.

Thanks,
Lev

lol at the new avatar lev.
it would seem you are going (awesomely) insane with your m/c habit lately.
i have yet to see a m/c with "proper" direct fuel injection.
adding the fuel after the exhaust valves have closed (overlap) is an advantage being missed with port injection.

Thanks Al. But it seemed I pushed the envelope and got my hand slapped. I'll just have to live with the T-shirt for now.

Well I ended up not buying a 950 Adv. The stars were not aligned for me.

KTM wanted 500 bucks for doing the vin check clearance letter like BMW now. Prices are still awesome in the states right now I just didn't have time to go down there and deal with the hassle.

I ended up buying a Comfy Couch (KLR) for 1/4 of the price with everything already set up on it.

Thanks for all the help that people given me regarding this.

I ended up buying that 04 S' from Victoria in the fall and it was priced at 9,500 but ended up getting it for less than that. It came with about 3,500 in extras with it, and being the GO model is quite a bit rarer then most you see on the road.

I think if your looking for a KTM 950 don't be put off by the listed price, Just make a offer on it and go from there. I agree that they are cheaper in the states but,When you factor in shipping ,papperwork and all the other extras then t narrows the difference in price.:)
