Leaky gas tank

I have an Acerbis 4 gal tank on my 94 Dr350SE. The system uses dual petcocks -- one on each side of the bike. I noticed the left side has started to leak fuel very very slowly right where the petcock is joined to the tank. This probably happened a couple weekends ago when I had a couple minor spills & went down on the left side.

I apologize for the quality of the 2nd pic, it was taken with my phone. As you can see there is definitely a leak. I didn't think it was much until I ran my fingers across the base of the petcock & they became soaked in fuel. Oddly enough, it doesn't really drip -- a stain about the diameter of 2 quarters appears after 3 days of sitting.

So, is this fixable or do I have to replace the tank? If it can be repaired, any recommendations would be most appreciated.

Are you sure the tank is cracked?

You might be lucky and have just had the gasket between the petcock (why is that so funny) and the tank is broken/leaky.

This has caused my gas tank to leak in the past. I assume most petcocks are the same in how they bolt to the tank.

The acerbis tank I had on my Honda had a small O ring that sealed the petcock to the tank. Pull the petcock off and check the o ring or gasket. Are the machine screws that hold the petcock in place tight?

I posted my Gnarly ride pics today.

Thanks for sending me your pics.

Cheers

I've never done this before but can only assume the tank will empty if I remove the petcock, & it's 3/4 full. Living in a condo & having no where to work on your bike truly sucks. How 'bout recommending a person or shop I can take it to have it sorted?

Yes, you would want to empty the tank before taking the petcock off. If you have the right size wrench or socket you could check the petcock mount screws to see if they are tight without having the tank empty.

I live on Vancouver Island so not sure about what shops on the mainland are good. I'm sure someone over there should be able to help you out.

So anyone reading this post that lives on the mainland, POCO area, can you help 6fiddy or recommend a shop to have a look at his leaking tank.

Thanks

another thought, if you have another vehicle you could drain the gas into it then work on the tank.

6 fiddy come over to my house and I'll help you fix it. I have seal-all if it's flush mounted and have teflon if the petcock is screw in type. PM me if you're intrested and I'll give you my address. I'm in Pitt Meadows.

My 5 gal IMS tank has four petcocks too.

I just wanna give huge thanks to franhoser for fixing my bike. The leak proved to be stubborn & I ended up leaving my bike at his place. He took the tank off & fixed it up for me. When I went back today to help out some more it was already done & ready to ride!!! I can't say enough about how eager franhoser was to lend a hand.
