looking for another xt550 owner

Hey all,

Just picked myself up an 83 xt550 from Washington a couple of months back and was wondering if I am the only lower-mainlander around with this bike? seems rare for these parts, big in Greece I hear.

Anyhow, If you happen to have a running one of these bikes, let me know, i have been messing with the electronics and tinkering with the strange YDIS carb and could use some hints on getting it all set up correctly.

Perhaps a tear up a local is in order.

I'm new to this forum, so hopefully by next spring some of you will know me by face.

Hi Wetcoast:

I don't have an '83 XT550, but I've had a '82 XT500H since about 1992. Over the years I had newer bikes but they made me feel like a weak midget, so it was back to the XT. The 500 and the 550 are very different and mine has no electronics (magneto ignition) and twin shocks, single choke carb and 2 valves, so I can't help with your set-up. I do have a tip though...you would qualify for "BC collector plates" which costs me 150 bucks for a full year.....a very nice perk for running an old crate.

I'm an old fashioned trail bike rider and the XTs are perfect for me. Mine's never broke down in 30 years and still runs like new.

- perhaps a face to face will pit these xt's against each other one day. I know a crew of guys in Van that are riding xt500's and love em as well.
This XT550 is a rare one in these parts as far as I can tell.
Mark - I will pm 'bugsinteeth' and see if there is any knowledge to be had.

The XT550 only existed for one model year ('82-83) and then were superceded by the XT600 (84-86) so they are a little rare.
