Making it Mine

So, I've had the DRZ for about 2 weeks now, it's blue, pretty much stock and original, it's in relatively good condition overall, plastic have minor cosmetic scratches and are still good but the bike is not mine yet. So, first order of business is a new Acerbis black body kit, handguards, going red with these for now, Trail Teck Vapour + Indicator Dashboard.

I plan on doing something with the headlight also in the near future, just haven't decided which replacement to go with. I know I'll probably end up in the middle of the bush at some point, at night, playing around, so being able to see is very important. I'm also thinking of replacing the rear light for a new smaller one. The bike will still mostly be for the trails but I have to say, that's one ugly light on the back.

This weekend I'm going to see if the 3x3 mod was ever done to it. I'm assuming some jetting would have been done when the Yoshimura Exhaust was put on but ya never know.

Just thought I'd share.

. When I bought mine it had a pipe on it and it ran fine, but did not have the 3x3 mod done to it. Sold the pipe because it was to loud and then did the 3x3 mod and installed a JD jetting kit, very easy to do. Runs great.

Hey So I'm not at work now so I could chat some more. I have a 2010 DRZ400S. I've got some extra stuff that I don't use. I've put the jets in, but haven't found the time to make a 3x3 hole in the top of the air box. I modded the speedo to have the select button that comes with the normal US versions and not with the Canadian one. I have a Suzuki rear rack. Not the best or even cheap. I took out the speedo and put in a trailtech voyager. Remind me to send you a picture of how the wheel cadence sensor goes on. The supplied picture is wrong. I have an acerbis black tank. Which is the best one IMO. It's not too big to feel weird and it has 50% more range than the stock on. Anyways just realised that your bike might be an SM and you live in Comox. Might be a hassle to trade the plastics. I still have a plug cap, some dinky non lit rpm guages, rectifier, extra coil and stuff like that stored in my bedroom. I really wanted a blue one, though. I went around all over Lower Mainland. There was only Black 2010,2009 or White 2009 available. So I got the black one. Now everything I own is black. Hope that was a good read.

Oh it's a DRZ400S. I so want that plastic. I forgot to mention. I changed the seat and gave away the stock one. I got a Seatconcepts.com seat. Which required installing on a stripped seat pan. I love that seat for up to 4 hrs at a time. Any more then you really need to stop for a break or drive a Road King.

Haha, very informative. It' is an "S" but the exchange of the plastics would not be an easy one. I haven't ordered the plastics yet but did order the Vapor and Handguards with MX1Canada (shout out to the sponsor). I'm still on the fence about switching the tank to an aftermarket one because of not being DOT compliant. The bike will be mostly for logging roads and trail adventuring but I will still occasionally bum around town on it. Time will tell and I'll make that decision once I figure out how far out I can go. Might do like when I was young, we would hide Jerry cans of gas along the trails for when you got low.

I've looked at racks and well, truth be told, I can build one in a day myself and if I'm not happy with it's design, I won't be out $100+, just the cost of a few beers.

As for the headlight, I like the look of the KLX. I would have to see the X2 in person to determine my opinion of it. I don't want to put a Baja light on it but looking at auxiliary lighting for when I need it.

Best mod I ever did to my DRZ was putting on the FCR 39 carb. It wakes that motor up and made it a beast! I ordered it right from Eddie Sisneros and it came perfectly jetted. I also had an X2 light since I smashed into a rock and broke the stock light. On my current bike I have a Baja Design Squadron LED. Best headlight I've ever had! It's a compact light with a nice looking fairing around it, not a big round one. It would be my choice over the X2 any day. But here's a pic with the X2 if you're wondering: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...0401810742452.345892.562752451&type=3&theater

Please don't throw away the plastic. I'll pick it up if I come for the Orca run. I hope it's on this year.

To sweeten the deal I will also give you the gear meter canceller you need to remove the gear meter and speedo cable. These are not needed when you have the Trail Tech Vapor cadence sensor which goes on the brake calliper bracket.

Opted not to change the plastic just yet. So many other things to get first. Sorry but I will keep you in mind if and when I do.
