Metal filings in my rad!

I managed to find a cheap(ish) replacement temperature sensor for my KLR rad/fan. When I removed the defective one there were metal filings magnetized to the tip of the sensor.

I am no mechanic, but something tells me this is bad. Other than the metal filings, I have had no reason to suspect that there was any thing wrong with my cooling system.

I have had the same coolant in for the life of the bike (15000km).

Any insights?

Again, thank you for your tips; you guys are a great resource for the mechanically uninclined.

Cheers,

According to my mechanically inclined friend, the rad. temp sensor is designed to pick up any metal bits that might be navagating the cooling system. He assures me that what I found was normal ... phew!

Thanks Dickster for that info. I wasn't aware of that either, however I will remeber it now.
