More end of season

I might get out for a couple more after work since the trail starts across the street. Next weekend might happen the same as this past one weather and family stuff permitting. If I'm not driving to Kelowna or riding there is still an open invite to join in changing a tire and preping the bike(s) for winter storage over coffee and donuts. The curious may also gather to see the bike stripped, cleaned, inspected, and modified on weekends through the winter. Posible projects may include headwork, an uneccesarily sturdy skid plate, new sprockets and chain, suspension adjustments, brake service, bearing and bushing service, intake and exhaust mods.:hb:

Hey Ripple, dont think I'll make er out this weekend. Still havent got the plastics patched back onto the bike. The bracket on the outside edge of the rad is bent so the bolt holes dont match up. Went to the bike shop last night and they seemed to think that this bracket cannot be replaced individually. No part number could be found. So in short not sure wtf im going to do. Dont really want to ride without anything protecting the radiator either.

Anywho, have yourself a happy halloween and keep in touch.

Cheers:hb:

Shucks....I'm missing all the riding doing battle with the flu (or something).

UnbForester05if your damage is something like the pic, you should be able to straighten it out fairly easy. And, I've seen plastic welded with a hot-air gun that looked pretty good, if you have all the pieces.

PM me if you need a hand.

I straightened out a Kawasaki radiator from my KX250 which had taken a big hitand was much worse than yours (but didn't leak). I clamped the bottom tank in a vise and slowly twisted the radiator straight. They tend to bend in a spiral due to their construction but are actually tougher than they appear. I would be tempted to pull it off, remove the side bracket, staighten everything and bolt it back together. Like Sparkle says you can repair the plastic deflector but they are quite cheap to buy. Just be careful with sharp tools or objects around the radiator, they are easy to puncture.

It would be a good time to upgrade the coolant to the good stuff from Motul.

Thanks guys. Sparkle I may take you up on the offer. Id appreciate any help as Im short on shop space and tools at the moment.

The bracket is as old trials guy described, slightly twisted. I also tried bending the tabs a bit to make things fit but no luck. Hoping I didnt make things worse. Anyways if you could letme know Sparkle what times work for you, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the help folks. Keep er pinned. :hb:

No worries...it still deals with end of season. If the weather holds there's always next weekend. I did have a good ride with Jason. Looped my bike on a hillclimb and watched it go past me upside down and about 3-4' in the air. Broken tailight/lic plate holder and bent/cracked mounts for the left passenger peg. No injuries though. Looked at a 79-80 XR500, resto or guest bike Im not sure.

Got to go in to work Saturday. Don't want to seem like an addict but if it's above zero and the new rear tire gets mounted then I'll probably hit the trails for an hour or so this weekend. Anybody want to do coffee with maps to make plans for next year over the winter?
