motocross helmets vs street

While single tracking at the Chilliwack newbie ride I encountered severe fogging of my glasses. I have always delt with this on the street by flpping up my visor and was moving quickly enough to clear my glasses. While I do not intend to do much single tracking I would get an MX helmet if that was a partial solution.

I know there are a lot of other solutions that may or may not work and I have tried some, what I have never tried is googles that you can wear over glasses. How are they.

I also concluded on the Newbie ride that a chest protector better than the one in my Joe Rocket jacket has.

Actualy that ride gave me a better idea of what I really need to buy and what I don't, as well I became aware of some safety issues. Is there a good first aid kit offered that is good for off road riding?

I made a mixture of 15% liquid hand soap and 85% alchohol. Dribble some of it onto a paper towel so the towel is dripping wet and then paint it on your glasses/goggles/face shield or whatever and then let it dry - do not wipe it off or buff it after it's dried. Of all the remedies I've tried this works the best and usually lasts for 2 or 3 days.

I really really like my six six one pressure suit... similar to a mx chestprotector, but can be worn underneath my size (+1) xcr moose shell, fleece, or jersey depending on the weather. Acts and looks normally like part of the jacket. There are similar offerings from other manufactures now. Could be purchased or ordered from dsbc sponsering vendors I bet.

I don't wear glasses, but fogging is a problem with my goggles cuz I sweat like an outta shape pig if I'm pushing. On someone's advice, I have purchased pull away goggle straps for when the going gets rough, slow, and sweaty.

As far as helmets go, this time of year I prefer the full face if I'm riding highway for more than 15 min... the windchill is brutal and cold rain worse. However, mud and crap are hard on the visor so I still wear googles on my full face in the trail.

You're lucky to get out for the newbie ride... I had to miss it due to a minor surgery... now I'm really itchin to ride!!!!! Let the fun begin!

i used http://www.sportrx.com/

It was relativrly cheap... a pair of goggles with a lense that wedged inside...Served me well...

I know a cheap friend who has done the same with his old glasses.

I have now gone with the best solution..laser Eye Surgery.....expensive but the best thing I have ever done for myself..

For a first aid kit. I spend a large amount of time in the bush. I have a little kit that I bought somewhere I took everything out and put back in 4 bandaids, tensor bandage, ziploc bags, survival blanket, 4x4 sterile pads, tape, lighter, matches, 2 homemade firestarters, a couple water tabs and a wire hand saw.

You have to figure out what you need over time. Most importantly take the highest level of first aid courses you can take.
