I cant help myself

Here are a few pictures of what I thought a motorcycle lift should be

1DSCN0239-med.JPG

It should be flush to the floor, so you can use your whole floor when not working on the bike

1DSCN0242-med.JPG

It has to be strong so you can really wrench on those tight bolts and be capable of lifting a Goldwing with ez (Max lift rating 3600 lbs)

Also Electric Hydralic so I dont have to work at getting my bike up

Bolted to the ground so I dont have to worry about wobble or falling over

1DSCN0243-med.JPG

And its got to lift the bike high enough so I dont have to lean over.

So I installed this bad boy about 12 years ago and boy have I been happy ever since

Bought this jack at Holeshot for $220.00 .Works great easy to get the bike on and off has tie downs to secure the bike. You can adjust from sitting height to standing depending on what you are doing

Has anyone ever tried hanging the bike? Probably a stupid question but you would think that you could rig up a pully to raise it. It only weighs 350 lbs. Too dangerous?

I can just see all your torquing forces twisting your bike in the wind with every socket you put onto it! Don't do it!

Yeah, I tried hanging a Mexican hammock one time and the thing let go. Got a black eye from it.:)

But then these lifts don't exactly look stable either. The tie downs look safer. But I can't imagine a bike falling off at 4 ft.

I guess Tom has had his for a long time with no issue but if you look at the bike sitting on top and where the side stand is.... (Only 1 inch from the edge). You have nowhere to run if that thing falls to the left.:f:

But it looks alot easier to work.

This lift is rock solid, dirt bikes tend to have a long reach on the side stand, so I have to be carfull. I usually have my bike on the stand before it goes on the lift. This lift will easily lift a Goldiwng on its sidestand, but centerstand is best.

Sorry Tom, I meant the cheaper ones looked less solid. My only issue with yours was the precarious placement of the side stand. I saw an OCC episode where they didn't lock the chopper into the lift and it fell off. Nobody was near it. I guess it was just hanging on. They have a lift that has clamps for the wheels that lock and hold the bike straight. At least that's what it looked like.

I couldn't imagine bending over and tightening the oil plug when it slips off and falls on my back.

The thing i like most about my lift is that the wheels are suspended in the air . Which is where i find most of my work being done i.e. brakes, tires, tuning spokes, cleaning and lubing chain . AllI have to do is drain the oil while the bike is on the grond then all other service can be done on the lift and believe methis thing is solid.Hell I've had the wife on it while I'm bleeding the brakes

Hey h2o...love this lift, where is Holeshot? I've been looking for something for awhile, still using an olden wooden contraption I built...but this rig looks sweet!

That Holeshot one is nice as it has the extra height. I just picked up a cheaper one from crappy tire and it is pretty nice and also comes with tie downs. The only draw back is that it doesn't go as high. But I also picked up a seat.

The only other minor difference is the crappy tire one does not use a flat surface but two rails that have rubber surface. This can be good and bad depending. You can access the drain plug between the rails but they are a fixed distance apart. So if your bike frame has a very small flat bottom then it could be an issue. It's KLR just fits and my cruiser, being longer, is no problem.
