Murphys' Law

Murphy's Law is an adage in Western culture that broadly states, "If anything can go wrong, it will." It is also cited as: "If there's more than one possible outcome of a job or task, and one of those outcomes will result in disaster or an undesirable consequence, then somebody will do it that way"; "Anything that can go wrong, will," the similar "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong," or, "Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time, in the worst possible way." In a less dramatic fashion, the law can be expressed as "Anything that has a probability of happening greater than 0 can and will happen. No exceptions." The saying is sometimes referred to as Sod's law or Finagle's law.

Now that you know the definition, guess what happened to me? I decided to go for a ride which I have been known to do, and was heading west with no particular destination in mind. I thought about going over Jordan Ridge (again) and then the rest of the Renfrew/Cowichan loop. I decided against Jordan Ridge and kept going to Renfrew. Did I mention I was doing this at midnight? I then decided I didn't want to do the loop so I took Jordan Ridge heading towards Jordan River. I got to the summit, took a break, relaxed, and carried on. Two minutes later, a nice yellow flashing triangle starts flashing and my rear tire pressure is rapidly decreasing. I said thank you for the warning and stopped. Threw in some tire gunk and rode off. It didn’t work and now I have a nice flashing red triangle. Crap, time to get dirty. I have never used a tire plug before and because of this, BMW was nice enough to include instructions with the repair kit. Of course, my flashlight decided to hate me and stop working. It’s fun reading very small printed instructions by your license plate light. The tire gunk that I put in did a very good job of showing me where the hole was (a lot easier than trying to find a pinhole in a tire at midnight on the Jordan Ridge summit) It turns out using a plug kit is dead simple so I was able to pull it off. The CO2 cartridges brought the tire up 21 psi, not enough for the red flashing triangle to go away which gets very annoying at night. I don’t think I have ever ridden so smooth before. I was going to get as far as I could on that tire and I wasn’t going to do anything to jeopardize it. When you’re riding on a tire with a plug in it and low pressure makes for a very long ride, and a very long post ride report  I made it to Sooke, expunged the CO2 gas from the tire and refilled it with regular air. Plug worked well, it held air no problem and I made it home. So what happens when you add a midnight ride, Jordan Ridge and Murphy’s Law? You get a ride you won’t forget and would do again in a second.

You school kids have way too much fun. I remember the days of staying up late doing silly things. Then trying to recover from bad situations...

Flare gun? I don't need no stinking flare gun. If it hadn't worked out, I would have turned right and gone straight down the ridge :hf: I would have hit the main road eventually
