I got my WR450 plated and have been terrorising the streets of Tsawwassen for a couple of days :dr: The bike gets lots of attention. The baja kit seems to work well , my only beef is the headlight is not as hot looking as the stock one. Power is good (rips my arms off) and the dealer did some mods after all. Can't wait to try it in the dirt. The manual says to get the valves checked after one hour and change oil. Seems kind of soon to me, what do you guys do ? Thanks in advance :)

One hour before first valve check? I dunno, that seems early to me. My Husaberg manual stated first valve check at 3 hrs. You might want to follow the manual though, as to not void your warranty. As for oil change, DEFINATELY after the first hour. Not because theoil is broken down, but because it will/could be contaminated with left over manufacturing debris, eg.. tiny bits of metal,silcone,etc..

Nive to see your having fun. Does it feel illegal when your riding? I love that feeling.

You guys are making me very jealous with this wr talk!

I was looking at the '08 wr450 on the wknd and it had a tag of $9000 on it with of course the free peewee50.

Does anyone know if they will make a 450 dualsport in the future like ktm and husky etc?

My 2 shiny pennies:

I don't think anyone was that answer. But if you take a look at the street-legal 2008 WR250R, it's quite different from a WR250F. The R's listed weight is 275lbs!!! That's a little on the heavy side for a 250cc dirtbike. I know I'd rather have the F version and get it made street-legal. I'm guessing that if Yamaha came out with a WR450 street-legal it would look more like the new 250R. Heavy, undersprung, huge muffler(catalytic converter),etc..

Hey Guys,

I'm having fun ! Got the first oil change done. Installed hand guards, skid plate and rad guards. Santa was early and brought me Gaerne GX1 boots and M2R jacket and pants,Scott goggles. Now its just a matter of learning how to ride :)

The Baja kit is about $600.00.Definately overpriced, but what recreational parts aren't ?You geta completely new headlight assembly, turn signals and breaklight. Also a horn. The main part is the new rectifier and stator mod. It also comes with a hokey plastic mirror which is now in the garbage. I believe I got the kit installed with D.O.T. tires for $1000.

So it comes with ther stator mod eh? what does that do for wattage output? I seem to recall the stock 2007 puts out about 80 watts waht does the kit do for you? What bulb configuration did you end up with and have you had it out in the dark yet? Any pics of your bike done up?

Hey Morty,

I was told by dealer the stock charging system would not keep up. I'm not sure how to post pictures on this site but will figure it out shortly.

Adjust your valves (or have it done for you) at the recommended 1st service interval. After that 1st one, you'll be able to run a long time before the next one.

The valves assemblies will find their "home" position shortly after the engine goes through a few heat cycles, and the valves will be "out" then. Resetting them will make your bike easier to start and prevent valve or seat damage (in the case of Ti valves). Your bike will also run smoother.

With bikes like this, or the Husky or KTM, remember this is not a lawnmower engine. This is more like a single cylinder from an indy car. It has incredible performance capabilities, so treat it right and you'll have worry free fun on the trails.

My 2c. Cheers & Feliz Navidad.

How much highway use can these take? While I've seen postings in places that say it can do highway speeds, can it handle doing these speeds for long? I'd love to get a WR450 and dual-sport it, but because I live in a condo, I don't have room for a trailer, so I'd have to ride it to the fun stuff, which means highway miles (I live in North Van). I'm not looking to do multi-day trips with it, but I would like to be able to ride to stuff around Squamish or out east near Chilliwack for the day. Can the bike take it?

After reading your post today I decided to take my W.R. down to hwy 17. I only got her up to 100 kph and I felt there should be a 6th gear. The bike also feels a bit light. The reason I dualsported the W.R. was that I wanted something more nimble in the bush. Othewise I would look at the K.L.R. ect.

I have a KLR and I'm looking to get something for the bush that I can ride there on, as the KLR doesn't seem to like the abuse it's getting. 100 kmh may not be the greatest for on-road, but at least I can use the highway to get to the riding.

You should read some of the articles and posts on the T.T. website. They list a lot of reasons why you don't want to run these engines at a high r.p.m. for a long period of time. If you can't put a carrier on your vehicle why not buy a pick-up.

Try changing the gearing on it for a little more top speed, it wont seem so bad just dont go too high or you may not like it in the bush....I am not sure what sprockets do what speeds but my buddy put new sprockets on his wr426 and he could easliy do 160kmh plus he said but it was too fast for anything but fire roads trails were too tight....
