New KLX250

Just picked up my new KLX 250 last week. So far, so good. Except that it really sucks to not be allowed to go over 4,000 RPM's for the first 800 KM's! It's embarrasing having scooters pass me by. I'm sure that I can feel their satisfied smile under their helmuts as they whiz by.

Anyways, just sold my 650GS which was too $$ to fix after crashing in the dirt too many times. Hoping that this one will be nicer to me in the dirt while I crash and learn.

Hope to sell some fellow KLX 250's out there this summer!

Hey Dan, 8,000km??!! You must have an iron ass by now. I'm very impressed. Thanks too for the pic. After convincing the dealer that Acerbis does make a tank for this model, I now have one on order. Can I ask what brand of tank bag you have? I can't seem to find one that fits. Speaking of bags; find any tail bags that fit? Thanks!

the tank bag is from moto pak.it is the gtx pocket.

I use an old tankbag on the rear rack.

and when needed a set of givi soft luggage.

Thanks for the info on the tank bag. Have another for you. My dealer now has the Acerbis fuel tank in, but they're confused as to how to install it. They mentioned that they'll have to move the choke along with some other stuff. Do you remember what your experience was with this? Thanks in advance!

the tank is a direct bolt on.the only change i made was to trim one side of the choke knob to allow it to clear the tank.total instal took well under 30 min.

So! Some more questions......(hope you don't mind):

In my recent readings, I've noticed that a lot of 250's have upgraded their exhaust systems, done the jetting and some air box mods.

I think I see in your pic that you've got a Muzzy? Is this right? If so, did you get the whole exhaust, or, just the slip on muffler. Silencer? Dealer quoted me $710+ re&re for whole system.

Hi Morty - That's exactly what I decided to do. After the first 400 painful sloooooowwwwww km's, I'm now ratting around creating hell. Gotta say, that I love the bike in crappy AM Vancouver rush hour. Whipping in/out of traffic, alleys, side strees, couple of curbs and voila, I'm at work feeling like I just completed a mini-marathon....

I think I paid 650-700 bucks for both the full muzzy and jet kit installed.

the muzzy slip on will not fit you need the head pipe from a klx300 in order to use any slip on pipe.

In stock form. What is the top speed of the KLX250?

What is the RPM at going 110km/h in 6th gear?

you will be doing about 6700 rpm at 110 km/h. You can cruise all day at 120

I just bought this bike aswell and am having a blast on it. I have been "riding it like i stole it" since I got it, and earlier today i decided to open it up. I got up to 145 before i felt a bit unsafe, completely stock. I have no problems on the highway or anything yet, and dirt performance is superb.

Having a blast on it so far though , my first bike for the street and first i've rode in well over 7 years. Thought I would buy it just for the summer and leave it all stock and get something bigger next year, but that went away after I've been having this much fun in only my first 2 weeks with it! The after market add ons will start soon enough, and I'll post some pics after i get my decals done.

Start with those free first mods, then buy a 13T front sprocket for a little more zip.
