New owner needs insurance

I just brought a new (to me) KLR650. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a private insurance company that is less expensive than ICBC to deal with. It will be my main transportation this summer (the insurance on my truck expires in April and the truck will be parked until snow falls). I also want to do some dual sport rides with you, if an out of practice rider on a KLR can keep up. I have not had a bike for about 20 years and hope I remember what I am supposed to do.

I bought my insurance through Hub Barton Insurance (Aberdeen Mall) $325 covers all physical damage to the bike for the year (riding, storage, collision, theft, etc.). You still need ICBC liability insurance for the period you are going to be on the road.

Also check out Megson Fitzpatrick insurance (online, in Victoria). I have some KLR buddies in Wiliams Lake that use them for their insurance.

Come out to the meet and greet on Wednesday night. 6:30. I'll post the location here shortly.

Thanks for the info. What is the declared value? ICBC gave me a quote of $276 for 180 days on a declared value of $7,000. Your $325 for the year sounds good.

up to 10,000 declared value is 325. price of a new bike plus all the bolt on stuff that will be gone if the bike is stolen. you will need to show reciepts in the event that your ride is totaled or stolen.

My carrier is Beacon as well. Based in Salmon Arm. There are discounts available for being a member of a recognised club, taking approved m/c training, etc. But they didn't kick in on my declared value of $4000 on the '99 KLR.

I have an 05 KLR and also went with Beacon. I insured it for $6500. with a $500 deductible and paid $329.00. This also includes $1000. for my trailer and $1000. for personal gear. Last year I went with Megason Fitzpatrick and the only difference was that I insured my bike for $7500, and that cost $469.00. So theirs my 2 cents worth, and hope it helps.
By the way SPC, just where are you from?

I am in Kamloops. I have not been riding for about 20 years. I did a lot of riding when I was younger with a variety of bikes (CT90, XR200R, IT250, XR250R, Husky 360, GS400, GS550, and GS650). I have wanted another bike for about the last 5 years. I had $6000 saved for the bike and then used it as a down payment on my wife’s new car last year. I had to take a loan to buy a used KLR650 this week. My new bike is a 2005 with 388km. A little bit newer and more expensive than I was looking for, but I am happy anyway. Now I am looking forward to a few easy rides later this summer.

P.S.

Thanks for all the replies.
