Newbie and new DR650

Hey guys, this is my first post and my first dual purpose bike. (However I have lots of riding experience on RM250s and similar bikes) I picked up a new 2015 DR650se the other day and want to start adding / upgrading parts. I plan to use the bike about 70/30 onroad to off road use. I will also be doing a few longer trips a year, 500 or so km. Im wondering what the must do mods are and what brands are best. So far on to do list is.

Skidplate
More comfortable seat
I will stick with the stock fuel tank for now but will mount a rotopax 1 gallon tank to my rear promoto billet rack when needed.
Side racks
Tires (whats the best onroad / offroad tires?)

Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Welcome to DualSportBC and congrats on your new bike.

The DSBC Spring Newbie Ride is this Sunday (March 29) at the Tamahi Staging Area in Chilliwack. It's a great event to come to and meet other DSBC riders and talk about bikes. It's a free event and the EZ C Adventure route is perfect for your bike.

For bags on my BMW I use a Giant Loop Bag. It's easy, waterproof, not to cumbersome and looks good. For regular rides on my DRZ 400 I just got a Giant Loop MoJavi bag so I don't have to wear a heavy backpack anymore. Great for tools, spare tube, pump, etc.

In addition to the skidplate I'd recommend rad guards and case protector.

I've a 2014 DR650. Acerbis hand guards fit and protect well; cut the balls off your levers. Lots of skid plates & racks out there - I chose Pat Walsh. Suspension - you can spend a lifetime on the Internet (drriders.com), buy heavier springs & emulators from Procycle etc or make it easy on yourself and talk to GP Moto in Kamloops (sponsor) or RMR in Chilliwack and have it done in a week. Buy an extended fuel screw (Keintech) and a Suzuki 6F19 needle to help the carb, or try the new JD jet kit. Get a 14T front sprocket and if you do, turn 3/16 off the OD of the retainer. Lots of DR info on ADV Rider too. Thumper talk site is pase. Tyres - Heidenau K60 scout are good 70/30 tyre, but for the loose screw I had GP Moto install D606 rear and GR213 front. I'm happy.
