well going to buy a bike on the weekend, found a few good ones to look at. probably a 05 drz400s with 2200kms. excited for this. anything i should know to look at before hand?

drz is a good noob bike. little maintenace req'd. and is like a tank.

I have had my drz400 for about a year and a half. I have been very happy with it.
2200 kms isn't much.
Lets see some pictures when you get it.
If the bike you are buying has a skid plate and some rad guards that would be a bonus.
Those are two things that you probably should have on a DRZ to start.

I brought a KLX400 (same bike) in Feb - I love it. It's perfect for commuting and trails. I wouldn't want to do long distance without a screen (and maybe some saddle adjustments).
Watch outs?
See if the tires are the Trailwing 41/42 - you'll want to replace those for off road. - And you'll need skid plate and hand guards
Ask if the air box has been modified and the card re-jetted - a common mod.
Check if the on-road parts are still there - mine came without DOT indicators or passenger pegs.
After 2200kms the chain and sprockets should still be good - I'd check the adjustment on the chain as well as looking at the condition of the oil - that'll give you a sense of how it's been treated. And do look in the air box - one bike I checked has a mouse nest in the air box! ok well picked it up yesterday, great shape. looks like brand new. will post some pics when i get home. deathwings still on the bike and i will defiantly have to gear it down. thanx guys. oh and i am in cranbrook so might be able to get out that way sometime.

Just bought my 1st DRZ400S.....it's an 2003 with some add-ons(Clarke, plate, guards, pegs) and 9,000km. I can see it's been used, but no real sign of abuse.
Now....need some real turn signals, methinks. The rear ones are virtually INVISIBLE.....look like reflectors!

I think it is the same one I looked at. Was his name Roy? It seemed to ride alright. But It looked a little rough to me.
That's the one, and it does ride fine, except for the out of balance rear tire. Pulls real strong and I took most of the next day to go through her, looking for obvious problems. Found virtually nothing.
Price was right, I really didn't want a shiny-new bike to scuff-up and this one has a used appearance, not a garage queen. So, now, with any luck, I'll get a new rear tire, better rear turn signals and put some miles on 'er.
Did you find a bike for yourself? Pickins weren't all that great.....I was looking for months......from Vancouver to Sorrento.

well here she is, deathwings and all. added some Easton EXP bars and had her up to as far as i could get on the lakit lookout rd. sorry i couldnt figure out how to get the picture on here.

yeah, i really got to find a tire that i like for the price i am willing to pay. so that is next.
I went with the commonly used Kenda K270 rear (4.5 x 18") and Pirelli MT21 (90:90) front. It is working really well for me - They're quiet on road and confidence inspiring on and off road. Mind you I don't lean too far over!
You can get the Kenda for as little as $50 (BCDirtbikesupply in Kelowna) But I went local to Playmor power.

yeah A Vicious Cycle has some really excellent prices so i might give them a call in the morning. pirelli mt21 front and rear, or maybe a d606 for the rear.
