Here is a bit of a photo essay on our latest trip into the Chilcotin/Cariboo...

First stop was Pemberton to take Randaroo hostage for a few days:

We then headed up the valley to look at the slide area that made the news a while back:

The road stops here as the bridge is under water
IMG_0892-1.jpg

After pulling the bikes over countless trees and obstacles we gave up and headed in on foot
IMG_0893-1.jpg

The whole valley floor was covered almost to the campground....

IMG_0894-1.jpg

There is still a bit of a blockage that the river is cutting through..
IMG_0895-1.jpg

From there we headed for Goldbridge and then the Mud/ China Head route...

A rest stop at the Yalacom

450 X Headed up China Head..

I parked my bike sideways and the wind nearly toppled it but Wicktrimmer caught it in time...

This weather station is new since the last time...

From the Fraser we headed to Clinton for fuel and grub... Along the way it started to rain so for the evening we headed back to the dry canyon country...

This time the Chilcotin River..

The hoodoos at Farwell
IMG_1024-1.jpg

It was getting late so we found a camping spot beside a small lake..
IMG_1028-1.jpg

IMG_1033-1.jpg

The next morning Ted and I hiked over to the lake to get some water for coffee..
IMG_1039-1.jpg

Things looked pretty dry and the water looked red..
IMG_1037-1.jpg

Upon closer inspection it looked like a whole bunch of animals died of thirst as the place was littered with bones everywhere...
IMG_1040-1.jpg

The lake was covered with this red moss/lichens type stuff but we managed to dig down and get enough water for coffee...
IMG_1045-1.jpg

IMG_1049-1.jpg

Last look at the red lake...

Later that day on the way out we had serious fuel issues with 2 of our bikes going on reserve 140 KM from Lilooet... A little while later they both ran out so we exploited the 640s tank with 1.2 liter at a time rations... After a couple fuel transfer sessions we ran into a couple good guys who had a flat tire issue... Actually it was a forgot his wheel wrench issue, so we were able to help him out and in turn they gave us a liter of petrol to help our case...
IMG_1058-1.jpg

After many fuel transfers I figured that my 640 had no more to give so Randaroo squeezed his tank and found enough to get us to the gas station and a very late 5:30 PM lunch....

After that we headed back to Pemberton and the end of another epic ride.... Thanks again Randaroo for all your hospitality as we look toward another trip in next year, longer and farther....

You didn't actually think we drank that water.....

Great report. That spot looks like the very same place I camped a few years back when I went up poison and china head mountain. We got overnight snow when we stayed up there in mid August, looks like you guys had mother nature on your side this time.

The ride over in the mountains was quite impressive. Scenery like I've never seen, great routes and people. Hope to do a similar ride next year!

I like that area a lot and will go back for sure. I had a beer right down on the river beside that old yellow beater you took the pic of.
