on the road headed south

yup drank the juice again. replaced my 09 990 with an 11. after 6 weeks of tinkering we're off for baja.

My "Bald as blog" is an attempt at humor aimed at my head, and the growing stack of used up tires gathering in the garage as the 09 99 ate a number of them last year.
will be travelling with my fone so no idea if I'll be able to upload and present pics of this present trip.
ride from the loops to van. yesterday was clear and cool and hoping for the same all the way down the Oregon Coast. planning on being away for a month and will try to update along the way hopefully a few of you may care to slide your ezboy close to the fire and follow along.
perhaps if there's interest I'll post up ride reports from some recent rides when I get back.

Excellent! Thanks Wayne! For those of us not quite riding yet but certainly experiencing ‘the itch’ we’ll be following along closely. Between you and Tom I’ll be entertained - though I think he’s forgotten how to ride a fossil fuel driven machine.....

thx Lordo for following. As this blog thing is as new to me as the freshly burned eggs being eaten. I suppose a little head wrapping around the concept is required. If for example it's to be general rambling as promised, ala regular ol ride report then perhaps yesterday s ride deserves more than a passing mention

it's an interesting feeling at least to yours truly to gear up then roll out fire up ride away on a new to you bike. essentially untested after weeKS of wrenching. Geez, hope this works.
And works it does. all actual riding memories of hundreds of thousands of klr kilometers dissappear from my punkin replaced with current visions of boundless power and comparitivly rail like handling. From the press of that button the at idle rumbling Akropovics make your eyebrows curl in a Scooby Doo "uuunhh". while around town this bike will set off alarms on the hwy the sound all but dissappears unless you twist the whoopie lever. Passed the wiegh scales at the crack of 130 and minus temps started before savona.
the roads thru to cache creek were clear dry cold but the skies were sunny and the 990 is running fabulously!
after fueling early to try and get a handle on fuel economy I headed south and promptly forgot about the mileage. doh. Temps are now in the plus but the little snowflake thingy on the dash is still flashing. while the pregnant mare wallowing of the under damped rear suspension was quite managable it's still world's better than any loaded klr out there. I'm sure that Neil would've referred to the days ride as both spirited and sporting. Arrived thru to and past Spuzzum in near normal drive time nice to see the snowflake gone tho.
clear and sunny day here in the Big Smoke great weather to check suspension settings on this day before continuing south tomorrow.
to those that may think of swinging a leg over a big vtwin like the 990 I can only suggest that you don't do it unless you have money in the bank because it's a sure fire way of hearing that earworm that says "c'mon yknow ya waaa-na".

You sir are one of a kind - loading up and braving sub zero temps prior to considering the wind chill faced on the bike at 130km/hr! Glad the new 990 is rolling well thus far! I believe this week I”ll be working on putting the 950 back together so I can pay some attention to the 350 prior to the annual pilgrimage to Moab.

Thanks Wayne, I need some local humor while sitting here on the beach here in Baja. Depending on how much time you will be on the road we might cross paths. We will be crossing north to the USA 1st week of April then on to Moab. Don't forget to cross post a link in fb T

hey Bill an Judy glad you're here.
and if you were actually here at the Hacienda cantina in Aberdeen washington you could've seen my first forthe trip picture of my dinner . the only pic for now is verbal and it's of an impossibly large tortilla soup and an "authentic" chili relleno and the draft beer of the day Modelo Negro, um yes. two please.
was on the road at the crack of noon after a terrific brunch with my daughter before heading towards a supposed 40 min border wait. seemed nowhere near that. I quite enjoyed walking the loaded beast of a 990 along in line knowing I was giving all the other lemmings running to the border something to talk about.
adjusted a little pogo out of the bike and missing seattle/Portland I had a blast riding along the surprisingly chilly but pleasantly twisty Olympic peninsula to here, at the hacienda where cerveza modelo negro numero dos has just arrived.
(and an order of churros w whip cream and strawberry jam)
