A quick pictorial of the East side of Parish Hill 2014
This ride is not for those who are afraid of heights or falling down. Best suited for experienced off road riders with off road capable bikes (no I don't consider a KLR 650 a off road bike) lighter is better. If you are not sure of your off road skills, this is not the trail to find out you need more practice. Once you enter the trail system there is only three ways out, The way you came, The way forward or Helicopter. Don't ever ride alone.
Still to much snow at the top to ride all the way around so we had to do the "the way you came in" to get out
Best place to start is the Tamihi area and head South on the Chilliwack Tamihi FSR
About 3 Kms up the road you will come to a 3 way intersection stay on the closed Tamihi FSR to the Right
Soon you will come to this barricade, its an easy ride around to the left, watch out for shooters
The next couple of Kms have about 25 cross ditches, no more quads sxs or jeeps past this point. Nice warm up for whats ahead
The first slide to ride around. This happened last year 2013 and forestry has decided not to repair the road for some time. Not sure if that to keep people out so when they decide to go ahead with the IPP there will be little opposition. Stay left
As you travel further South along Tamihi FSR you will cross this bridge, it was closed a couple of years back because of the guard railing was falling off. The quad guys at the time pulled the concrete blocks aside so its easy crossing the Tamihi Creek to the West side. There is a cross behind the tree to the left that marks where a quad guy did not make the corner onto the bridge some years ago nickname "Indian" You will notice just a single track heading up the old FSR
"Frenchmans Revenge" another big slide that has removed the road. Enter the singletrack trail to the right here, nasty switchback and some really slippery roots to cover here for the next 100 metres. If you dont like this section I would recommend you turn around and stick to the trails closer to Tamihi.
For those of you who decide to continue thru Frenchmans Revenge you will be rewarded by some sweet flowing single track, you will now be heading West and continuing to climb.
Squatters Camp, lots of junk here including a jerry can on top of the jeep
Follow the Boots to Sidi Creek
Sidi Creek
Good place to fill your water container
Bridge to Nowhere
Looking Down
Looking Up Notice the big boulder, its the size of a small house, it was not there last year. Dont spend too much time here
Look more single track
Big Rock Intersection, keep right
Waterfalls
Waterfall crossing
More single track
Entrance to Tomahawk Bridge
Then of course another slide to cross, dont look up as all the rocks up above will make you wonder why you are here
Its harder than it looks, with little room for error
A short rocky section to check you balance
Through the cedar hedge
Then after some more sweet single track through the trees you get this short but steep rocky section, just keep your momentum and you will make it to the top, if you stop its too loose and steep to get going again. If you have a few minute stop and scoop up some gravel from above and throw it between the bigger rocks on the lower part of this picture, it will help lock the rocks in place so you can keep your speed up.
As yet unnamed bridge, once you make it up the short rocky hill you will cross this bridge, if you need water this will be the last place you can get it
As usual once you complete your short but difficult feature you get rewarded by some nice single track threw the trees
another rock hardened trail, if it is sunny the views are stunning of the Chilliwack River and Tamihi Valleys
Any of you that were on the Fall Nubee of 2013 on the hardest loop, if you made it to the end you would have been right here
Elevation 4000 feet and we hit snow
thats it for now as we have to wait a few weeks for the snow to melt to ride the West Side of Parish Hill
