Continuing....
On the right side the horn is the first obstacle. I removed the fan mounting bracket hoping that maybe I could feed it through the rad guards or maybe something...
No dice, there wasn't a good way to fit the bracket through so I had a sudden brain-flash. Why not just take the speed nut off of the bracket and mount it on the rad guard. Why not? Too perfect!! Just big enough slots.
That done, I could mount the rad guard. I was really pleased overall how quickly these guards mounted up, and how sturdy they are.
The next fly in the ointment is the cooling fan. The EXC does not come with a fan, and they will boil the coolant out if you are stopped behind other riders on a tight trail or just plain 'ol stopped in traffic. The cooling fan is about a $86 option if ya buy it from Munnracing.com or a $156 option if ya buy it from your local dealer you bought the bike from. Guess which one mine is? You can't see it in the photo but mine is the one that comes with the 24k gold bearings that is autographed by Johnny Carson.
My brother needed one too, so I ordered him the $86 one. Thanks Chip!
I removed the fasteners, and placed the rad roughly into place and marked the place where the rad cross brace interferes with the fan shroud.
What? You don't like my Spongebob pencil? What can I say, I have 2 little kids.
Some well placed cuts with the saw, and snap the pieces of plastic out with a pair of pliers. Test fit, trim a little more, then mount in place.
Here it is with wires attached, ready for the heat!
Hornall mounted up to the speed nut on the rad guard - super cool. ( as cool as those :ymca lookin horns are)
View from the pilot's seat
All ready for a good old fashioned drop on some boulders.
Not necessarily next, but will be coming soon:
(deja vu!)
Just ran out of gas (figuratively) last night, and couldn't finish the rad post. It took as much time to post as it did to install everything. From start to finish it was about a 90 minute project, although I had some interruptions. Not too bad considering. Next time (my brother's bringing his 450EXC for the same surgery) it should be about 45 minutes or less.
Post done, for now, time for my reward.
