I haven't had a decent ride since the Dead Zone and was hoping someone would be able to ride on Saturday Sep. 13th. Thinking Nanaimo Lakes and have wanted to see if I can get as far as the Nitinat River while there is no snow, but open to suggestions. Anyone have the time?

Might you go Sunday? I am interested in getting into the Nitnat but from the Alberni summit end. This would likely be a day of casting about on good to poor logging roads and possibly some ATV trails. I have printouts of google earth and a gps as a guide. Goal - Port Alberni to Nanaimo via Nitnat. Sucess likelyhood - Low.

I like the sound of your plan as I have looked at doing similar routes, but Sunday is out for me. Family event. What about next weekend?

I would go next Sunday. Due to work commitments could not leave before noon however that should be enough time for good ride. We could touch bases closer to the 21st as the weather develops.

Went from Renfrew to Nanaimo via Nitnat yesterday. Left Renfrew at 18:00 after riding from Shawnigan to Renfrew via Maid Lake / Lens Main. Up the Gordon into Caycuse then up the Nitnat valley. First gate closed on Nitnat road at the bridge. Second gate open. Gate at north side of Second Lake closed (now 20:00). This is a very difficult if not impossible gate. Gate at west end to road down south side of second lake not locked but closed. Bull Elk approached within 15' before turning off into bush as I honked my horn repeatedly. Scarey. Gate at east end of road locked. May have been a route around this one but I had no flashlight and it was hard to see in the dark. Then a crossditch with berms both sides - likely rideable in daylight. Finally gate at the gatehouse closed and locked. Not sure what time they close this one in the evening.

Vigorous workout for me. Would be easier with two or more.

Good weather forecast for next Sunday

Mr. Harrod,

Sounds like you had a good adventure. Are you still up for a ride on Sunday Sep. 21st? If so, when and where should I meet you?

Hi Crongo,

I am up for riding on Sunday. I can leave Cedar at noon. We could meet along the bypass somewhere that is good for you. We go in at Dumont and try to stay on gravel as much as possible.

Sounds good. I hope it is not raining too hard. How about we meet at the turn-off to the college at 12:30 heading north (time to ride in from Cedar). I am in Harewood. I ride a red and white Husky.

I will be there at 12:30. I am on angreen KLR. I will PM you my phone number and if it is raining / showering too much we can contact each other. this should be a good ride. Last time I was up Copp Creek Main we saw 3 bears. Hopefully we will find a way down into the Nitnat.
