Got rained out last week so let's try it again. Actually, I was more concerned about the cold last week than the rain. There was mixed snow and rain forecast for the north end of the lake and I've been there, done that and won't do it again if I can help it. I can handle being wet on a bike but going into hypothermia on a bike is more risk than I'm willing to take.

I'd like to leave the Sasquatch Inn at 10:00 AM, ride up to Pemberton for lunch and then return via the Sea to Sky. This ride will be doable on a big bike but there is a rough stretch for about 8 km at the north end of a lake that would probably give an inexperienced rider on a big bike a real challenge.

Like last week this ride is weather dependent and it's looking a little iffy right now but let's set it up and hope for the best. Please reply to this post if you're interested.

Actually last Sunday was a pretty good ride up the Harrison west. Once up past the hatchery is was ok.

Stopped at the first bridge that crosses the Lillooet river.

Stopped for a bite to eat about 10km north of the hotsprings along the river. The road was a little dusty here.

Leaving Pemberton about 4 o'clock. The only place it was a little chilly was in Whistler.

The damn weather forecast was for snow and rain on the northern half of the West Harrison road so we missed out on a good day because of a lousy forecast, well that sucks. Here's what I was trying to avoid:

We were so wet and cold I swore I'd never ride on a day like that again. I can tolerate rain when it's not too cold but when you have sleet coming down it's just no fun on a bike. We'll have to wait and see what the weather's like on Sunday but I'll be a lot more inclined to go if it's warmer than it was last Sunday.

Thanks for the info.

Yes snow would have sucked and slowed things down for sure. The dam project was the worst part of the road it had so much sloppy mud on the road.It wasn't rutted just a 3" deep sheet of mud flowing on the road from all the excavation. Then after that it was perfectly smooth road to the Tipella camp at the end of the lake. The rocky section before the dam project wasn't that bad. I actually like that kind of stuff. Just go slow and easy, look ahead and try and pick a good line that works. Up by Skookamchuck lots of work on the road has been done by the indian reserve. I think I was going along about 110kmh and all of a sudden there is a school zone sign. Oops. Have a good ride if the weather is good, because the road is great right now.

Where is the dam project? I haven't been up west Harrison since last Sept and I didn't see any construction going on then. Heading north from the road to Sloquette I always take the west side of the river and cross on the bridge about 20 miles south of hwy 99. I like the west side because there is much less traffic on it so you don't have to fight your way through some cagers dust until you can pass him. Is the dam project between Tippella and Pemberton or Tippella and the Sasquatch?

basically you will be running in to construction stuff pretty much right after tipella, and seemed to peter out just past the sloquette turnoff. We didn't find it that bad, but I wouldn't try to set any speed records through there.

Thanks for the info, guys. I normally cut the speed down between the log dump and the Sloquette turn off because there's people living in that area and they've posted signs requesting low speeds. If the sunny weather holds most of the mud should be dried up and if not, well it's pretty flat so it shouldn't be too bad.

The weather for tomorrow is not looking good. I'll post here tomorrow morning about 7:00AM to confirm if I'm going or not. Is there anyboldy else besides Will who is interested in this ride?

I really want to do this ride but as of now its looking ugly for tomorrow I think I will pass this time and get caught up on some work I should be getting done. Doesn't seem to be a lot of interest either. It will also give me a chance to do some much needed servicing on the bike to get ready for the really good weather. I appreciate you putting these rides together John and I hope to join you in the future.
Thanks
Will.

I understand, Will, and totally agree with you. Rob was interested in going but the weather has dampened his enthusiasm and mine as well. So, we'll just cancel the ride tomorrow and wait until the weather allows us to enjoy it the way it should be enjoyed. Hopefully it'll happen next week. We'll get lots of riding in this season, no need to freeze our butts off in the freezing rain.

Just got back from a loop up West Harrison to Anderson lake and Yalakom and Molybdenite Lake.
No snow anywhere except at 4500ft on way to Molybdenite Lake.
It was to wet up the Yalakom so I never hit snow or even made it close to China Head
The Hurley is still closed but they plan to plow by May25.
Cheers

I'm up for a ride with the big bikes this weekend. Even if the weather is marginal I'll go since its been a few weeks since my last ride and I've yet to make it all the way up W. Harrison. An overnight is doable too. I'll keep checking back to see who else is interested.

Hi Expat,

I was intending to try the ride again this Sunday. Meet at the Sasquatch, lunch in Pemberton, Sea to Sky home. Weather is looking better. I'll post the ride and see who's interested.
