Dirt Doug already posted on this topic and I thought it deserves its own thread.
While riding today we met the owner of the land we were riding on. This is an area of trails North of Renfrew Road and South of the Koksilah river, between the TransCanada trail and Shawnigan Beach Estates and extending toward the Pit off Thain Road.
The fellow was riding a trials bike and respectfully explained to us that we were on his property (360 acres I think) and that he would like us to stop riding there. He said that traffic in the area has increased steadily and what were single tracks are now getting serious quad traffic and then come the 4X4's. He's getting many dozens of people through there every day at weekends and even has people in the middle of the night and some folk are helping themselves to firewood.
He understands our needs as trail users and is willing to help make it work for us by posting notices and maps at entry points to his property showing where to ride and where not to ride. And he is working to develop a trail which would link Cobble Hill area and the Thain road pit to Renfrew road and the Burnt bridge area while staying mostly on Crown land.
Dirt Doug and I told him about DualSport BC and encouraged him to post here with maps and information in the hope that it will increase awareness of the issues and help reduce unwanted use of trails on his land.
I think it's worth supporting land owners who are sympathetic to our needs and hope that mutual assitance and respect will be to everyones advantage. I certainly prefer his approach to the ranting angry land owner; the like of which most of us have met at some time. He spoke of spending a few weekends just hanging out on the trails and speaking with people about the problem.
So I thought I'd post up to help spread the word that there is a place that we would do well to avoid and so help keep this land owner from becoming angry and ranting :mad3:
I hope that the owner will post here with a map and more info as it will help us to identify the place and act accordingly.
Loz out.
PS. had a great ride today.:dr:
