well heres a little update

when i last brought the bike home from holeshot they did an acurate measurment of the oil they put in and asked me to take it home and put a couple hundred kms on it without adding oil then bring it back so they could acuratley measure the oil consumption

i managed to get 107 kms on the bike and noticed the motor getting noisey

with no visible oil on the sight glass i took it back to them and they were quite suprised

at this point ktm gave holeshot the go ahead to make it right and also tole them of an updated cylinder head and piston (apparently a secret updated part)

they had the bike for a good month as parts were backordered but i think theyve got the problem resolved finally

the sales rep for ktm was really good to deal with over the phone and felt my frustration both with bigtop and my ktm product

theyve extended my warranty for an additional 6 months starting in the spring when i reinsure the bike

i have untill nov 1st before my insurance is done for the year and if there is any signs of smoke or oil consumption the motor will be taken out and sent to quebec for the winter to figure out the problem

with only 50 kms on the new motor i cant say weather its fixed for sure or not but at least im not seeing any blue smoke like before

ill deffinatly have to get alot more k on it before i know for sure but hopefully this is the end of my smokey 530

MIKE AT THE VERY LEAST YOU SHOULD EMAIL A LINK TO THISTHREAD TO BIGTOP'S OWNERS. HOPE YOUR BIKE IS FIXED THOUGH. TO MANY DEALERS HAVE THEIR HEAD IN THE SAND WHEN IT COMES TO CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Hi mike-123,

Thanks for the update. Hopefully, this has fixed your bike!

I have noticed that I may have a issue with oil consumption....over the last 2 -3 rides I've taken. I called Spunkys and they are going to check with KTM. The service guy was good to talk to and he said there are no recalls on my bike. I explained to him what was going on with the short rides (30- 65 km) and that I have to keep adding oil, as it is always sitting back near the add mark. My bike doesn't seem to smoke though. There are other possiblities. I have 8 hrs/365 km on thebike so far.

Keep us posted.

Hey mike_123, sorry to hear about your crappy customer service experiences. My motto is find a shop that treats you right & stick by them. Glad things are finally starting to turn around for you. Keep us posted with any updates :TTT:

grumpy my 530 started to smoke at about 150 kms

it got really bad at about 400

if you leave it idle for a couple minutes then burp the throttle do you get a good puff of blue

mine would fill the garage with blue smoke to the point you couldnt breathe

all my buddies riding with me said they would never see smoke but i always had to add alot of oil

if you call ktm service (go to the dealer section on the phone menu) and talk to francise he was pretty good to deal with

i also ended up talkign to the ktm sales rep directly and he was pretty decent aswell

ask about the updated cylinder and piston if it becomes a problem

im pretty sure bigtop has allready seen this forum as it was the salespeople there thta told me of this site

Hello mike-123,

I haven't noticed any smoke when I blip the throttle after 5 minutes of warm up. I know I have to get that damm jet kit installed though. I was on pumpkintalk.com and the boys there say they have new rings for 2010 and they fit the 08-09 EX4 engines as well. There is a lot of talk also on oil migration between engine and gear box. There is a seal that is the culprit between the two. They have a fix for that too. Just have to get the bugs worked out a we will a "rockin n rollin".

Anyways, try and get some fun rides in while you can. Crappy weather around these days. Keep me posted on how you make out.
