Squamish exploring

Looking to head uppast Squamish and do some more exploring this weekend. Thinking ofdeparting outof N Van around 8am 'ish. Ride will be pretty relaxed and we'll see what the day brings on for challenges. There would be the possibility of grabbing a late lunch/early dinner at the Shady Tree on the way back into town for the usual BS session.

Any takers? Vex? FJR Eh? Frog and TL? Lane? Mishi? Shifty? Spam? Newfie? Eagle? There's gotta be some one other than myself that can feel the chill in the air coming on hinting of the limited number of good riding days left this year!

On a side note....anyone know if High Falls Creek FSR connects to Chance Creek FSR? The Backroads Mapbook I have has the 2 roads coming pretty close to one another, but no connection.

Park in the lot at Centennial Theatre. It is at 23rd and Lonsdale. I work there and I know no one gets towed unless you over night and even that is a slim chance.

My tires are pretty worn down, I'm hoping to get new tires on this week. If I can't get them on in time, will you be ok with me tagging along with what I have now? They are starting to get down there, and I don't want to keep you guys from exploring stuff. Then again, helping push/lift my KLR will build character, right? :p

Btw, went up to Chute Lake on Sunday. Who knew stuff like that was so close to my parents' place? I'll have to ride it all the way through to Penticton next time. The roads back there seem to go all over the place.

Vex...

You gotta come out. If you don't get the tires on we'll make due with the old ones. You went all the way up there on the KLR on Sunday after riding all day on Saturday?

Newf...

Sat Sept 8 is the day we are looking at. You could always trailer up to squamish and park it somewhere up there. Or like suggested, just park it at the theater.

I'm a possibility. I'm changing out my front and rear springs. The lower shock bolt is FROZEN, like nothing I've ever seen. I'll work on getting it done.

Ok, twist my rubber arm, I'm in!

Ya, I didn't have anything to do for those two days, and you talking about it reminded me that I wanted to go check it out, so I did.

So let's say we meet at the coffe shop (Beans?) on 17th and Lonsdale for 8am departure. Does that work? That would be close for Chad to park his trailer...and there is an esso a block away for fuel. We will also be topping up at the northernmost Chevron in Squamish.

Lane...gimme a call if you run into problems with your springs. Have you done the front yet? I found those a little tougher as you have to get the fork caps off without rounding them off. Remember to use a 6 point socket ground down by about 1/8 of an inch to getrid of the taper found on most sockets. If you are doing it by yourself, slide the fork up in the clamps, and retighten the top clamp a few inches lower to keep the fork from spinning when trying to get the caps off. I had to tap my ratchet with a small ball peen to break them loose.

Cheers...

Pete, I'm not going top make it. Between having the bike in fifty pieces, the shock bolt frozen like nothing I've ever seen and my kids demanding my time this weekend - I'll be doing the next one. I'll get the tires done while I'm at it.

Not too sure as of yet, Vex and I found a road near the end of Elaho that went up and up. We turned around...we were looking for the Elaho Giant. We might just have to see how high the other road goes. High Falls Creek would be another option. It would be cool if we could find a way to connect to Chance Creek. I am open to just about anything!

Are you coming out trailrider?

Good afternoon, I'm relatively new to the area and have just pick up a bog standard brand new drz400 which I would like to christen. I have no idea of the length of the trails you're going on (fuel range), but would love to come along. After saying that, If I'm not there at 8am don't wait for me.

Cheers

K we are still on for tomorrow. Looks like the weather is going to be fantastic. Last weekend was perfect for riding up there.

Simon...last weekends ride was about 170km round trip from Chevron. I am good for about 300km and could give you a squirt if need be. What is the range on a DRZ? They should be good for at least 200km I would think?

See you all at 8!

Thanks for the ride guys. It was once again a beautiful day to ride. Simon and Chad, did you guys get caught in the traffic on the S2S on the way home? Looks like a cruiser bike went around one of the construction detours a little too quick. Hope everyone was OK. We didn't go too much farther after you two turned back. The map shows the road following the river for a while....probably the same sort of riding as the other side of the river. Now that we all know the main road, next time we can start going off on a bunch of the spurs.

Ryan was saying that it is possible to make it past the Hydro projest on the Ashlu. I know there is a nice waterfall up there, and I have never taken that road to the end. According to the mapbook there is an old mine up there...might be a worthwhile trip. I think there are also some trails close into town...down along the Cheakamus river close to where it empties into the Squamish river. I also think we could make it up the Cheakamus River to Chance Creek. It is marked on the map as a mountain bike trail, but as long as it is not posted I think we should be able to use it.

Until next time....

are you planning to cross the bridge that takes you towards the hydro project? i doubt you can get past that way as there is a gatehouse and heavy equipment (unless i misseda side road after crossing the river). i've visited the site a couple of times as i know someone with the company developing the project... actually we were up there today photographing the pink salmon spawning.

FANTASITC day to ride the Squamish area, there were tons of cruisers riding up while we were heading home between just before noon! a Trev Deeley truck along too.
