Who's up for a long, one day ride?

Plan is to meet at The Old Settler Pub in Harrison Hot Springs before 10:00AM Sunday morning. We'll ride up east Harrison and over Kookipi pass to the Nahatlatch FSR and then up the west side of the Fraser to the traction ferry at Lytton. We'll grab a bite to eat in Lytton and then, depending on time and group consensus, either ride south on Hwy 1 to home, or ride about 17 km north on Hwy 1 to the Nicomen FSR and then follow it south to where it comes out just north of Boston Bar, and then down the canyon to home.

This will be a big bike, newby friendly ride. It will be a long day, and the weather looks to be fairly warm so make sure you bring plenty of water to drink along the way.

The Old Settler Pub is on the east side of the main road into Harrison Hot Springs right where the village starts - ya can't miss it. We'll be leaving the Old Settler at 10:00 AM sharp so don't be late.

Please post here if you're going to come.

We came through there yesterday and there is a fairly long work zone area on East Harrison.. On one section there are rock drilling and blasting crews widening the road.. Rock trucks, excavators and bucket loaders on another section and bridge replacement crews working in a different spot, very busy so expect delays unless those power project crews shut down on weekends..

Those guys usually shut down on weekends so it probably won't be a problem but if it is, or if the road is closed, we can always go up west Harrison, maybe to Sloquette Hot Springs.

Been through there both directions twice within the last several weekends including a long weekend. They work long hours on weekends. There were no delays.

I would love to do this ride. I just have to find a way to play hooky on Sunday.

Is the road in decent shape? I heard there were a couple of spots that would be tricky for a big bike newby.

Someone reported a few weeks ago that the road has been graded all the way through and is now a "freeway". I haven't been through since last year and, at that time, there were two or three rough spots but nothing that you couldn't get off and walk your bike through - especially with a couple of guys helping to push. According to the reports they've now been smoothed out. When I was up there last year there was a lot of logging going on and they had made, and were still making, improvements to the road so I expect it to be in much better condition now. In any case the rough spots were not very long. One of them was about a couple of hundred feet and the other two were much less than that. Last year I posted this ride as "big bike, newbie friendly". There were a couple of newbies on F800GS's, and a guy on an R1200GS, and they made it through without much trouble so you should be fine.

The road is in good shape, piece of cake on a loaded up 650 sized unit... The rains that fell a couple days ago have started to carve up some sections of the Koopkiki hill because whoever fixed the road did not do a good job of accounting for water displacement.. I'm sure the road will be pretty rutted out again after the upcoming winters rains are done..

Hey, Rick, do your best. Ideal time of the year for riding, good weather and not too hot.

Hi John, I really want to go, I just have to see to if I can reschedule a course that is running on Sunday.

This sounds like fun. Count me in. My KLR now has a decent skid-plate. Hopefully no more broken engine casings.

Hi John

The road really is a freeway......they have smoothed out all rough spots and fixed up the culverts.

You're really going to enjoy the ride !

Here's some footage going over Kookipi from a trip Ron & made a couple of weeks ago.

http://youtu.be/UzSUFO2PKTY

This is what it was like for the entire trip......took about 3 1/2hrs each way from Harrison to Lytton going at a good clip.

Have a good one !

Thanks for the info Marvin, much appreciated. Can I tempt you into doing it again this Sunday?
