Tahsis as Trans Canada Trail Terminus

There is a great project unfolding on the ADV site where some inmates have taken it upon themselves to develop a trans Canada off road ride.:clap: For those of you who have ridden the BC Trailie, you will recognize Manxman's input in the BC section. There has been some discussion that Tofino be the western Terminus of the ride. I am proposing that those of you who know the ride west from Campbell River add your four bits to the discussion on ADV and support the idea that Tahsis be recognized as a dirt friendly, rider friendly option to touristy Tofino. The thread may be found at http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=14617369#post14617369

ATV guys have been working on a route West East for several years, not sure where it runs but it is all off road and from what I understand it is pretty ez for a Dual Sport bike. For you guys that hang out at ADV rider you might want to let them know to post here, lots of guys here that know all the routes and difficulties.

The bit that I have ridden between Princeton and the Coquihalla is like a super highway. You can go as fast as you want and it is only about a 3 percent grade.

I did stop and shutdown whenever I came along hikers and people on bicycles to let them pass me.

This is as far as I got west of Brookmere. Then the trail dives back into the trees and connects back up to the camping area at the base of Larson Hill.

Tahsis, hmmm.........so how would you lads propose getting from the Horeshoe Bay ferry to this "mythical" Tahsis ;) utilizing as little ashpalt as possible. Criteria being roads need to be reliably open (aka open from May-Nov and open for the next 10 years), any offroading needs to be suitable for a ldual sport bike loaded with gear, gas stops no longer than 400km, the more scenic the better and a terminus where you can dip your wheels into the ocean......

Very interested in this concept for the TCAT....thanks in advance.

Nada ? I do realize asphalt will be mandatory on the island, but surely someone has some suggestions for gravel roads to get north on the island ?

What about taking the ferry to Deep Cove and then the ferry from Brentwood Bay to the Cowichan? Dirt road to Port Alberni.

Anyways from Port Alberni (on gravel) up island to the roads you were mentioning?

Thanks again

Why Tashsis ?Whats in Tahsis ?
Not what...WHO? Bajaman,Redhed and Grumpy KTM are in Tahsis!!! Seriously though Tahsis has TONS of unspoiled wilderness for camping, fishing and of course motorbiking. Best of all it is not a bunch of Frappe-latte-mochachino-sipping Yuppies that you find nowadays in the tamed area that used to be the wild Tuff-town (Tofino) and Ukee (Uclulet). Also why not promote tourism to somewhere else on our little ol' Island where it still has the small town feel .

+1 more for Tahsis:tup:,

Looks like Winter Harbour may become the terminus.......and Island Hopper has "adopted the Island" section of the TCAT. Yehaa !!! Can't wait to get out your way and ride, tip a few browns back and check out the scenery.

I vote for Tahsis too, even though I have never been there as far as I remember but I have been twice in Tofino and I have been twice disappointed.
