Hey. Foist and foimost thanks so much for all the work put into the organization of this event and for all the bullwork effort put into the the trails provided, and for the support of sponsors.
The event attracted some +=125 all gathered under sunny skies a day after snow left the area! nice timing. After coffee and some mingling around the fire and a riders meeting the group splintered into some rather large themselves, smaller groups. The more experienced riders were offered some Reese Aussie style tracks to follow though some were surprised by the lettering as it seems B is A and A is really A! must be a downunda thing. That said at the end of day all the advanced riders were tucked and smiling.
The group I followed (swept) was lead by Rocke who ante'd up to lead C riders without roll charts though there was one creative rider (kle 300) who was using a chopstick as a roller for his chart, creative for sure too bad it was approx 6 inches longer than the width of his tankbag. We started as a largish group of 11 but were somehow 13 before leaving the parking lot, all good. Rocke had a riders meeting of his own for the group where we discussed the etiquette of responsibility towards the rider behind you. You need to be sure the rider you are waiting for to arrive at a turn, sees you and proves it by waving. Easy shmeesy, as it turns out, not so much. We needed a regroup, now and then,,, We left with 11 then 13 then about 18 then we lost 2 and a full neebee waited at the turn for the next rider as he should which was 3 of us, I was so proud, and we returned several C+ riders back to their flock along the way. My 990 had a some pretty good fun I sure hope the gaggle of bikes in our group did too. Enough babble.
A man sized vat of coffee and folks gathered to yakkity yak and warm themselves by the fire.
(apologies to the split image fella in the middle of this stitched pic.)
bit of a wider view on a sunny but chilly morn.
sorry missed your wave.
C riders group beginning to gel. Looks to be a nice shiny Ducati there. The C route is challenge wise front loaded as in most challenging right at the start a kind of "make this", and you'll have a great day set-up. Then again offering a nubie pretty good mud and reeally large puddles and some rather large aggregate gravel right out of the gate, is perhaps another thing. We'll see.
Hey. Isn't that the,,, After scrambling a little to the left, the unscathed rider and scrambler were set back on track, yes, he scrambled away.
The, at least C+ section has a victim. And it was the shiniest coolest likely priciest of the bunch. ouch.
When momentum and traction divorce from desired direction. With the KLr rear wheel hanging the bike still barely on the road unseen was how far the rider went as it is quite steep, for a bit. A rescue strap was considered until physics stepped in . 350lb klr/7 bodies= 50lbs each. so we as a group lifted it to the road, (only because Neil wasn't there as he would've just picked it up and tossed it on the road)
a few tumbles later the roads opened up and the scenery stepped in.
pulling up beside this C rider on the less than full width gravel FSR with a camera in my clutch hand, I swear that's a look of "Uuum, what are you doing" at the least he's clearly smiling. trust me.
wearing mud as a badge of honor this little versys 300 with banana peels for tires got thru the tough stuff and the whole ride, but only because we kept telling him to. Hope that was OK.
well into the ride with way more riders than in the beginning. Rocke (near center back facing camera) having a chat with one of the either C or + riders.
(DOH, another mid image split personality)
the intersection where the C+ riders had a chance to regroup.
a minute later.
the last pic. for this post and my fav. of the lot. glad I got it. and glad he's got a big grin on his face as it won't likely last. Because, whip out the Gold Card that's going to cost a bundle!!
Lets see, tailight housing, perhaps signals, exhaust can, perhaps sub-frame and maybe a fender. Makes a donation to search and rescue seem peanuts. On my way home I caught up to him in traffic and with helmet on and earplugs in I asked thru an open window what actually did happen. From the hand motions and animated voice I think it was a classic case of "Whisky Throttle". Looped it, bummer. Wouldn't surprise me if he's still smiling though.
thanks to the C+ rider who assisted with sweeping for the C's, glad you got back in C+. Thanks Again Judy Russ Reese and the others that put in the effort to make events like these to happen.
as always thx fer looking. Wayne.
