A good days riding had by all. The ride report will follow this evening, however I thought I should answer Greg's question on the location of the sign.

Warren and Paul are demonstrating why this group has no need for gps:dr:

When you turn off Hwy 16 to head North, cross the bridge and the sign is just a little ways further. The pic that Greg has posted is from the opposite direction.

The bag on the back is for grocery shopping. At first we thought it was for Paul's lunch:br:

Here are the pictures and a quick report on the ride.

This time out we had Warren and I from Terrace and Paul from Houston. Paul left just before 7am from Houston and headed for the meeting point at the junction of Hwy 16 and Hwy 37 North. Warren and I set off at 8am from Terrace and braved high winds for the first dozen km's.

We met up just after 9am and fueled up on coffee and hot breakfast at the Kitwanga service area.

This is a familiar sign for travellers on Hwy 16 and marks the start of many an epic journey North.

After following the arrow on the sign we headed off towards Woodcock airport. This is a disused military airport from the second world war. Warren thought he may have a better chance of taking off if he raised his hands. Once again the North by Northwest riders are setting a course for self destruction:clap:

Earlier in the morning Paul had thought his headlight had been flickering and had trouble starting. Well into the ride he lost all elecrical power and drbike proved why he has that name:mad3:

Buy a KLR and learn to walk or if your riding buddy owns a KLR, you had better be prepared to push:wi: (as Warren and I found out, more than once).

The road was in pretty good shape for most of the ride. Some gravel and slimy mud made things interesting at times. But on the whole it was a fairly easy ride. The fallscenery is always breathtaking in this part of BC.

After another food stop and a chance meeting with the "Goofy runner" we gave Paul a final push and set off to ride home in the rain. Just outside of Terrace we spotted another group of fearless KLR riders (no cruisers out today;)).

Well after the second group ride I am convinced that this is a great idea. Let's get the word out and try to bring together the many dual sport riders that live in or visit this area. The riding here is always interesting and can be as easy or hard as you want it to be. I am looking forward to having this group to ride with next spring:tup:

cheers,

Michael

Michael,

I liked your photos and report on the ride. I wish I could have joined you. We're running out of weekends and the weather is getting colder and wetter, so it'll likely be Spring before I can join you on some of these rides. Meanwhile, I'll be getting some street practise in for the rest of this season so I can take my road test in the early Spring. I'll be watching the site for more news.

Chuck,

Welcome to the group. Time is certainly running out this season and we may not get the opportunity to do another group ride this year. It is however the ideal time to get some road practice and prepare for your test in the spring. In '06 I had to sit my driving test and bike test, one after the other. Having been driving / riding in the UK for many years it was a bit of a challenge! I failed my first bike test for not spending enough time positioned to the left of the lane. It made no difference when I explained my concerns about the local driving habits and number of impaired drivers:shock:

Enjoy the KLR, the black one looks real nice!

Hello All

I just registered in today. Great pics of the TP ride and bravo to the cripples who endur(O)ed and made it home. Myself and a few friends were also sloshing about in the Dorreen area and can certainly appreciate the cold wet mud-slinging rides.

I'm still insured until the 28th and would like to squeeze off a few more episodes, whether it be highway, FSR or whatever. I'm currently on leave from work and available any day. My friend is practicing for his test, and Friday's weather forecast seems reasonable for a Rupert jaunt or perhaps Nass Valley. Any takers or alternate ride suggestions (day trips)?

:ted:Just a thoughtI'd pass along after our weekend lay-down festival and viewing your trip pics. Those KLR mirrors are perched awfully close to vital controls. How well would you survive without a clutch or front brake fluid reservoir? Next time I'll be removing mine before it gets nasty.

Anyone feel like heading to Kisault??? It's a great easy day ride. About 7 or 8 hours return from Terrrace. Heading thoug the lava fields is so nice, and then you get way back there into some real wilderness before a town appears out of nowhere.

Saturday or Sunday would be best for me. Paul you're always welcome here if you wanna come we have an extra bed this weekend and a hot tub.

I would be interested in a ride to Kitsault on Saturday (note to self - wear winter gloves:D). This ghost town is on my list of places to visit.

How difficult is it to get through or under the gate?

Welcome Sparklr! Are you part of the group that was behind Klrnorth and I last Saturday afternoon on Hwy 16w, when we were stopped around Kleanza creek?

I did it by myself last time and had to almost drag the bike under, but not quite, kept it off the ground and rolled under. With two people it would be easy. Quite a nice ride all in all. Alice arm is not a place many people ever get to go to or is replicated easily.

I would love to go on the ride, sadly I have family commitments. Have a good time if you go. If for some reason its a no go this time maybe it could be a spring opener...

Yes we were the group behind you, all from Kitimat. 2 experiencedriders and one rookie. We went up the FSR to an access trail into Dorreen. Almost 3 km of greasy trail, roots and some other minor obstacles. Definitely a 3 person ride, lots of pushing and man-handling was required, very exhausting with all the rain gear on. More so was the slickness, you were always on alert for aslip. I won't try that again when its been wet for a while. All in all it was a good excursion, with only a broken stock handguard and frazzled egos.

Kitsault sounds like fun, never been there, I'm willing and able. Send me the itinerary.
