BAD NEWS...:mad3:
My bike has been using a little more oil than I'd like, and a failedcam chain guide fragment (no engine damage)caused the trans to be stuck in 3rd or 4th...
Teardown to head-off stage (to replace guide) revealed severe carbon buildup on valves and in the combustion chamber, and a worn cylinder bore, almost all the crosshatching is gone and you can see the rings have actuallyy worn grooves in the bore where they stop at the top and bottom of the stroke. Also the piston shows signs of wear, but not scoring, just shiny skirt.
Haven't measured anything yet but it looks like a ball hone and ring job won't fix it,I think it needsreplating and a new piston/rings.
Anyone have any good ideas about the cheapest way of getting this done?
http://www.mongoosemachine.com replates cylinders and they are close too. anyone had any experience with these guys? Turnaround times?
Long shot but does anyone have a lightly used piston/cylinder they may have removed to do a big bore conversion? I'd be interested in that option too.
