Welcome aboard Peter, unless the weather improves deastically I may be done riding for a while. The off road bits should be OK, though a lot of the trails are covered by snow. However getting to the trails will be sketchy at best, and I really can't afford a slide down the road. This cold & damp really plays havoc with the hardware in my arm & knee. A nice rainy warmer spell would tempt me out though.

Here are the pics from the last ride courtesy of Mark (who is no longer elegible for the newbie discount!!)

Thanks MtB, yea snow riding on the pavement is no fun. Yea im free on Wednesday and would be down to ride providing the streets are relatively clear. Any thoughts where you would want to ride? I havent been up sylvester road in mission in a bit and wouldn't mind checking it out.

Have physio on Wednesday, but this weather does not make me think of riding. I'll have to pass for a while.

Hey all,

I'm (still) always itching for a ride during the week, preferably close to the city - so as to minimize tarmac time. Not sure whats available, so please chime in if you've any trails to share !

HI Dizo:

You would probably find that the OEM, genuine Suzuki cable will last longer than the Motion Pro cables so if you are going to get a new one that is what I recommend. Also important to lube the cable well with either proper cable lube or a very light oil. Final note, routing the cable to minimize any sharp bends will improve clutch feel and your cables will last longer.

Hope to hook up for a ride with you in the new year. Cheers......otg

Recovery hit a bit of a snag. I have another surgery coming up in January, so I am out for a while. I'll post here when I'm ready to try again (most frustrating!!!!!).

Thanks for the tips otg, though I ended up with a Motion Pro one because the OEM's were a bit harder to get (and a good amount more expensive) and as it was I was waiting two weeks for a new cable so I didn't want to wait another week for the OEM. I doubt the cables were ever lubed by the previous owners, but i've been doing it every time I do the valves (6-10 thousand km's, depending on the type of riding) and skipping them if they seem plenty lubed. This new cable is one of the teflon lined ones which i've found are better off left not lubed except for the barrel ends to prevent sticking there.
The cable routing is fairly good on the DR so I dont think thats of real concern on this bike.

The cable ended up braking right after that post, which I temporarily repaired, and then broke again a week and a half later (I dont really have any proper ends for the replacement barrels of this cables size, and I tried to make one work... that obviously didn't) so I ended up without the clutch for four days. Dad was away with the truck, so riding without the clutch in the snow got a bit interesting!

All is well now, the bikes getting just the normal maintenance and once she gets a new rear tire for this springs newbie ride she'll be raring to go proper off-road riding again!

Happy holidays everyone... let me know if you want a snow ride in Squamish!

I'm not familiar with this area, and would love to discover more local riding areas. Are these trails big bike/newbie friendly ?

How about Wednesday at Sylvester?

Hi Len, count me in for Wednesday.

Most of the roads/trails are big bike, newbie friendly but some of the places we're gonna want to go are going to be a real challenge for a noob on a big bike. It really depends on your fitness and strength.

 10 at the end of the pavement? I'd be interested in riding some of the "quad" and other trails off of the FSR. Like the first trail and power line trail we took at Hoover. My last couple of rides I've kept the rubber side down, and thats just not right. If it is just easy roads and FSR I'll take a pass. I'm still new, and want to put myself in situations that will improve my trail riding.

Totally agree with you Len, it's a lot more interesting riding the quad and single track trails than it is the FSRs. I can't speak for Peter (fox44) but I suspect he feels the same, so let's do the harder trails tomorrow and caution offworlder that the ride won't be friendly to a noobie on a big bike. Len, you might be new to off road motorcycling but you're an experienced quad and mountain bike rider and you've developed a lot of skills in those sports that transfer very well to motorcycling. I've ridden with you before and I would not consider you to be a noobie on a motorcycle, and you're certainly not on a big bike. If you want to ride single track we should definitely head out to the Tamahi/Church area before too long. That's where the best single track is around here.

Yea I would prefer some harder trails too. So 10am at the end of pavment sounds good. Anyone want to ride out from the poco/coquitlam area?

OK, Peter, Len, I'll see you at the end of the pavement on Sylvester at 10:00AM tomorrow. If we wake up tomorrow and it's pouring rain I'll cancel. I'll post here around 8:00 one way or the other to confirm.

Ha ha, I'm probably going to get my azz kicked tomorrow. :hr: . Until it warms up a bit and my behind gets use to the 2x4 they call a seat, I will be using my receiver carrier to get my bike to and from the trails. Anyone else coming out :wi: . See ya in the AM.....John, I might be interested in Tamahi (Church) this weekend if you can make it. I couldn't imagine riding my bike on some of the quad trails I've ridden there though.

Wow, I didnt expect this snow. Snowing heavily with the roads covered in poco. I cant see Fox wanting to ride out there. Still on, or postponed?

Looks like I'm out for today. It's snowing here and I don't think I'm down with riding my bike on the streets in the snow. I would put it in my truck but I have no ramp at the moment and since my truck is lifted I need a pretty big ramp. Well have fun guys if you still go.
