What bike is this? (1973)

I picked up this bike tonight and I know that it's a 100cc Kawasaki and I know it's a 1973. From the regi papers that came with it, the last time it was insured was in 1993 and it's been sitting undercover since :shock:

Any ideas what model it is? Any tips for something that's been sitting this long?

I believe that is a KE100. I think if I remember the carb is sorta inside the cases as shown on the pic. Very nice find ..with papers yet. Look at those metal fenders!

You can try contacting Kawasaki with the VIN and they "should" be able to tell you the model, my guess is a Big Horn G4.

You can look up parts under Owner Info at http://www.buykawasaki.com - it won'ttell how to fix it, but, it will show you where the pieces are should to be.

Thanks for the tip! Looks like the only 100cc dual sport Kawasaki in 1973 is a "G5", the precursor to the KE100 which I read started production in 76.

But looking at Bikebandit, there's a '73 F11 that looks similar... hmmmmmm

EDIT: So I took a look at the VIN under 1/2" of mud and it starts with a G4-XXXXX... so maybe it's a G4?


So anyways, any ideas what weight oil and what mix gas I should be using?

I took a look at Bikebandit and they list a Clymer manual that covers 80 to 350cc Kawa2 smokes - It might be worth while to get it. :ted:

I think your bike has a oil tank and pump/injector.

It does have a high/low range gear box -DO NOTchage ranges while the bike is moving.

Hmm, I'll take a look at that manual for sure. Don't have any sort of documentation on the thing.

I was wondering about the high/low range, the PO carved what look to be shift points on the handlebars and has a high and low set. Is that what the lever by the right handle is? Haven't had much of a chance to look at the thing but just sort of assumed it was the choke

Yup, the extra lever on the right handle bar is high/low range, I don't know where the choke lever is.

Also, I am at the limit of my knowledge of antique 2 strokes.

It's time for you to get to work on it.

Thanks in advance, that thing will be a huge help!!

Tried putting some gas it in the other day and it started pouring out of the case. Take a closer look and I guess the carb is hiding in there behind a cover. Took it apart and gave it a good clean but broke the ancient fuel in in the process and don't have a replacement handy

BUT, seems like the needle valve is holding back the flow of fuel in the closed position now so hopefully that'll do it! Guess I just need to find what distance is supposed to be between the needle valve and the tab

The manual i had already, and was not using....and the envelope and shipping cost a mere 3 bucks, so call it a gift.
