What happened to the G650X Challenge?

I was at my local BMW dealership (Pacific Yam and BMW) trying to get a good look and maybe a test ride of the 08 G650X Challenge but upon arriving I was told they didn't have any and that it had been discontinued.

Is this true? And if so, why? the G650X Challenge seemed like the perfect big bore dual sport.

Sadly it is true

No more G650:(

Its a nice bike and I can say very forgiving. It can do everything my DR400 could but with composure.

Plush suspension (I like it that way) great for long off road trips.

Stiff frame, very stable at highs speeds, and I mean high not that 120kph stuff

Small tank but great fuel mileage

A good bike that satisfies my current riding style

So why did they get rid of it? Not selling in enough numbers? I find that hard to believe, since they wre "sold out" everytime I tried to go look at one.

Most likely the lack of sales on the X Challenge would be the reason for its demise...

I think it makes a much better dual sport than the 450X because of the engines lower state of tune..... I would imagine the 650s top end would outlasts the 450s by 3 or more ....

I thought it was a perfect entry level dual sport... What exactly is BMW doing? First they get rid of the R75 and R80, the the 650 Dakar, and now the G650... Seriously, they aren't instilling much confidence in the brand for me.

I was set to buy a new X Challenge in July, but could not get one. Iwas told they were all sold out.And that they would not be making them anymore. :shock:I thought it would be a great dualsport bike for me.

It sounds like they sold good in Canada anyways.

Say the same about the HP2, 950SE etc.....

Marketing looks at things differently. Take for instance Land Rover, 90% of world sales (other than North American) are diesels, yet no diesels are available in NA. When asked the question, theyreply "Marketing shows...yadayada...."

It's all about Sales....:mad3:

You know why it's gone? Because the mass conciousness of riders in northamerica want harleys and big bore supersports, not medium bore multipurpose, indestructable bikes.

I was told they're stillmaking them for distribution in Europe. It's only discontinued here in NA. But that if you were interested they have the demo models being sold off from the Canadian Beemer stores. Ask them and yee shall see... (I got that from Pacific Yami when at the open house last month)

Asked, at Jhon Valk and Pacific Yam/BMW they have none. Why is it Europe gets all the nice bikes?

You answered your own question earlier...

The HP series will always be limited production according to the head of BMW Canada. Two seasons and they're gone, except the HP2 sport which they might keep going longer with the endurance racing program.

If you really want one, check Ebay, dealers in the US are selling their demo bikes for about $5600 USD on Ebay.

I know a guy in Seattle selling his if you want. Very nice guy, his name is Russ and I rode with him last year.
