Wheel Bearings don't Move

Hi gang!
I'm new tour your sight. I have a 2002 KLR and it sat in Mam & Dad's grage for too long (3 years). i tossed a new battery in it and she ran. Got to love these things.
So I rode it from Ottawa to Rossland B.C. (mastly on US #2) and had a blast. Now out in the west I'm wanting to ride the fire roads and trails. I bought new tires today.
Conti TKC 80's on. mounting them tonight and took off the front wheel and the bearings don't turn :? ?? whats up with that? any sugestions? Rear is fine. 6203LU & 6202LU.

Change the bearings and inspect that u havent damaged the front axel. Might as well change the rear also if they have any roughness to them .

Are you saying that the wheel does not turn....or the axle is spinning inside of the bearing. These are two different issues.

If the wheel does not turn, I would suspect that you have a bushing missing or put in backwards (I don't know if this is possible, I am not familiar with KLR's).

If the axle is spinning inside of the bearing, You have the wrong size bearing, or the wrong size axle. (I bought a CR500 once that the previous owner had stuck a chunck of 7/8 ready rod in place of the proper axle. The axle was spinning inside of the bearing and it made a real mess. )

If you have not run it like this, I don't think that is is going to be too hard to rectify.

.......or are you saying that when you have the wheel off, you cannot turn the bearings with your fingers. That is another issue....If that is the case follow Jokers advice...When in doubt.....follow Jokers advice:ss:

The rear bearings are fine and so is the axel. The front bearings won't turn when the wheel is removed from the bike. The axel looks good but I can't get the bearings to turn just by hand. I'll see what the dealer things. I don't have any bearing pullers so I gess I'll get them to do it. Any outer suggestions? How many of you have replaced your KLR bearings?

About a ten minute job to change bearings: carefully pry the seals out with a seal puller or screwdriver blade, remove any bearing retaining circlips {a lot of front wheels don't have them} , use a long drift rod with a flat end{3/4s the size of the axel dia.} and insert it kitty corner into axel hole putting sideways pressure on the middle spacer so it the tip comes to rest on the inner race of the opposite side bearing, tap on the end of the drift and work around the bearing and it should pop out, remove the middle spacer and drive the other bearing out the opposite way. Clean things up with solvent, put a little assembly grease on the outer race of the new bearing{also make sure the new bearing has greased balls} and carefully tap it in sqaurely using a socket the same dia as the outer race for a drift, once bearing bottoms in its seat flip the wheel drop in the spacer and tap in the other side, install new seals{or reuse old if in good shape}, test to make sure spacer lines up by installing axel if so your done, reassemble wheel on bike. One note of caution be careful of brake rotor so it is not damaged, I usually cant one edge of the wheel on my knee or a block of wood when driving out bearings.

I put my new bearings in the deepfreeze over night and they tapped in very easy when cold. If you buy your bearings from a bearing supply shop it is quite a bit cheaper than a motorcycle shop. I havn't done the front yet but I replaced the rear ones with sealed bearings. Makes more sense to me.
