Which husky do you recommend

Hello Husky riders.

I got a KLR650 2 years ago. Great bike but way to heavy for anything more than a logging road. So I am looking for a new dual sport bike.

Most rides will be just a day, odd ride might have a couple hours pavement. Needs to be great on the odd trail, tight old road.

450 or bigger. I am 180lbs been riding for 30 years.

These huskys look cool so what can you guys tell me.

thanks ahead.

TE610 for sure- try and get a used one-[you can get them for about$6000]....they have the best 6-speed tranny in dual sports, are durable and go real good and have thetop suspension and brakes..the 450/510 is lighter but simular-you would have to spend triple the money to make the KLRas good -i know this because i owned a KLR and a HUSKY..ive seen a few for sale lately on CASTANET check em out -for some reason the local KELMOTORRAD never stocks any 610s..the new cycle worldmag gave the husky no.1 in a test with other euro dual sports[which are superiorto the asian DP bikes for now IMO]go onthumper talkand ADV rider on the internet and read up on all the different types of bikes and find out whats best-ZO13... :f:

X2. The TE610 is a fantastic do-it-all dualsport.

So, what about saddle bags? can you get them on a husky. I notice the pipe very exposed on Huskys. I am narrowing down my decision to husky, ktm or drz. Everytime I read about a ktm they remind you to change the oil every 10 hrs and check the values. I have a CRF 250R and the values havent needed adjustment for 4 years(and I have had it checked and I beat it silly)

Can you put a small rack on a Husky?

That one thing is shifting me away from a ktm.

I appreciate your knowledge.

thanks, zoo

The sub frame is aluminum. You wouldn’t want to overload it. That is where a KLR is better for more adventure riding. This is the most amount of stuff I took to the Orca Run earlier this year:

would not take this off road for too long. Mainly just forestry roads. Like I said the sub frame is aluminum and not the strongest.

But then again this bike is not designed for adventure riding with 100lb of gear.

Is that maintenance that the ktm needs for real? Oil change every 10hr and value check.

I have a crf250r done to the 9999's and the value havent needed adjustment for 4 years(At the dealership).

I dont think even spending the money would make a comparable KLR. KLR is definitely just a Adventure bike. It is not a dirt bike at all. I have spent the money on mine and its still like riding a big heavy bike that just isnt at home on anything tighter than a 4 lane logging road. As for a comuter and long trip bike, the klr is great but I am finding I only get 1 4 day ride a year verses every weekend of a dualsport ride into the hills. So I need a much better dualsporter.

keep the feed back coming as its helping me make up my mind.

what do you think ofmy choices for dual sports- XR650R- powerful ,can be street legal,a lil heavy for single track stuff but lots of mods availiable-overall a great bike.....HUSKY610-great all rounder but not easy to get after-market tanks 4 i heard.....Extreme dirt bikes :KTM 530,APRILIA 550/BMW450X/HUSABERG 570,ETC..these are great for hard-core dirt riding but exotic and fussy maintenance and not good on road..[i like the APE550 btw] the "SAFE "dual-sports:KLR650,DR650,DRZ400,XR650L-these are fine but need $$$ to make the way you want-a compromise bike, decent but not wicked...KTM950-awesome bike -pricey but fun, needs lots of space to ride one not for local mtn trails too much....WR250/450-good woods weapons butnot good on hwy..BMWs[F800g-,f650]..great on hwy,a little heavy for off-roading complex expensive bikes but nice though....V-STROM,R1200,KTM990,VERSYS,SCRAMBLER etc, more for hwy than trails...so leaves the KTM690...wicked power, handling, good on hwy and off, this is what i would buy right now or a used 610 or XR650R.... :hb:

Ok, thats some cool insight. thanks.

A guy just posted a 08KLX 450 street legal(mods) for sale. Might check it out.

I know DRZ are bomb proof and lots of mods avialable but after riding for 30 years on wicked dirt bikes Im a little afraid I might be disappointed with the DRZ. Oh well I'll keep researching it.

thanks again.

I have a plated klx450 and love it. Don't expect to do alot of hwy riding on it though. Mine gets me from my house to the trails, then from the trails to the pub.

Ya it has the e start and the 5 speed. In that picture the bigger tank is on it,But I have since gone back to the stock tank. I just didnt ever go far enough to justify hauling around that much gas.
